What sort of surprise is Rove planning this weekend?
It seems unlikely that Karl & Co. don't have something up their sleeves for Saturday or Sunday. Something powerful enough to stir the base and not give us adequate time to respond.

The Kerry issue is already dying.

Do they have Osama in a freezer somwhere after all?

1. I don't want to ask because it's tempting providence, similar to
not asking "What else could go wrong?" and getting an answer.

16. There's also been speculation that the verdict might result
in an uptick in violence (if an uptick is possible at this point), so I'm not sure this is a very effective October Surprise.

5. Hussein will be sentenced on Sunday.
Obviously politically timed. Not sure what the response will be. The media will probably make a huge deal of it and run with it through the end of voting Tuesday.

8. let's see. on one hand, a forgone conclusion in a circus atmosphere,
far from america's shores,
on the other, a closeted, ultra-religious, drug abusing, married, gay-bashing queen- minister who has the ear of the president.

Which do YOU think will get more coverage?

11. It's too late for a surprise to be effective.
If there would have been a surprise, it should've been sprung this past Tuesday or Wednesday. It should've been massive enough that it was all you saw on the news, if not the news pre-empting regular programming. The surprise should've been all that people talked about over the weekend, and weekend polls should've shown a massive swing to support the Republicans. Now that the weekend is upon us, nobody dares disturb football viewers. Even releasing Osama from a freezer or getting him killed in battle would be seen as too cynical, too convenient. Only Diebold can save the Republicans now.

The October Surprise was no October Surprise.

We got them where we want them. Now let's put our collective boots on the Republicans' necks and push down hard, and don't let up until the body's done convulsing.

13. I think I'm in agreement
The Republicans are in too much hot water, too far behind for something to work at this point. If you're behind by 8 with one second to go in the basketball game, short of a total meltdown by the other team, you're going to lose, because there is no 8 point play that can be pulled off in one second.

Let's go into our finishing kick, and run through the tape at the finish line. Don't let up, don't start coasting. Even the dirtiest dirty trick isn't going to work right now, and let's use that as incentive to put forth our best effort in these last four days, optimistic that the payoff for our hard work will be a Democratic majority in Congress.

18. We had Early Voting from Oct 19th through Nov. 2nd. 58% of my
precinct (registered voters) have already voted. Not all of the remaining 42% will vote, so it's already too late. Way too late.

17. Indeed. Saddam's supporters were pissed off that he was even on trial.
Imagine how furious they're going to be when he has a death sentence hanging over his head.

This is going to be ugly. Very ugly.
