Cheney says Iraq insurgents constantly surf Web, monitoring U.S. election
NYT/Reuters: Cheney Links Rise in Iraq Violence to U.S. Election
By REUTERS
Published: October 30, 2006

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney said on Monday insurgents had stepped up attacks in Iraq to try to sway next week's U.S. elections and they were constantly surfing the Web to keep tabs on American public opinion.

"Whether it's al Qaeda or the other elements that are active in Iraq, they are betting on the proposition they can break the will of the American people,'' Cheney told Fox News. .''..They're very sensitive to the fact that we've got an election scheduled.''

Cheney, a driving force in the decision to invade Iraq in 2003, spoke eight days before congressional elections with polls showing Bush's Republican party at risk of losing control of Congress to the Democrats....

Cheney said America's enemies in Iraq possessed the Internet savvy to monitor U.S. developments, helping them to time attacks aimed in part at influencing the elections. But he cited no evidence to back the theory.

"There isn't anything that's on the Internet that's not accessible to them. They're on it all the time. They're very sophisticated users of it,'' he told Fox's "Your World with Neil Cavuto'' program....

4. And that information is exclusively on the web. Can't get it anywhere else.
Like from cable news (don't they have satellite dishes?) & newspapers.

And, while we're on the subject, why are all these journalists reporting from Iraq being killed? Is it just bad luck, being in the wrong place at the wrong time? Explain that, Cheney.

5. !! There is nothing sophisticated about it dick. You turn on your
computer and click the big blue e. Zoom - you are "on the internet".

What a fuckin maroon you are dick - or moran in some circles.

I think that this POS is planting the seeds for legislation that controls the net. Legislation that takes away the one last way we have to effectively communicate and organize with each other on a large scale. Legislation to extend his power and control.

7. C'mon, much of the world knows we have an election next week.
Another leading line meant to be filled in by the RW base - so if you don't vote for us, they've won. Bullshit. It's typical Cheney sleaze, but it bugs the hell outta me.

12. uhhh, dick-less??? one generally needs electricity or a satellite
link in order to be online. let's see, baghdad has about two hours a day--and THAT's the capital. you blew up the infrastructure, remember? electricity? water? food? shelter? medicine?

let's see--the insurgents are busy killing our people, and yet they manage to spend all kinds of time on the net. . . righttttt.

I doubt most of the insurgents even have electricity, much less have any idea what a Democrat or Republican is. Or care, for that matter.

14. The irony is: he is the one out of touch
Like the Sunni and the Shia are revenge killing one another because there is a close election in Virginia;

"hey brother, Allah be damned! Allen is up 3 points in the latest poll, lets got torture some infidels and drop their bodies in the street"

man oh man what an idiot!

17. what a moronic thing to say
like someone else said, 3/4 of the country doesn't have electricity. Second of all, I thought they wanted to kill us no matter if we're nice to them, no matter if we're mean to them. So which is it? Can we embolden the terrorists by posting "bush is an asshole" on the 'internets' or do they want to kill us no matter what? I'm sick of them having it both ways.
