Bono: 'We can do a better job in Iraq'
Marcel Honoré
The Desert Sun
October 28, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Congresswoman Mary Bono said Friday she was frustrated at mounting U.S. casualties in Iraq but likened public criticism of the war to a "Jane Fonda attitude" that she said hurts troop morale.
Speaking about Iraq to the La Quinta Rotary Club, Bono noted actress Jane Fonda's activism against the Vietnam War. Fonda was embroiled in controversy when she was photographed in Vietnam on an anti-aircraft battery used against U.S. military pilots.

"We can do a better job in Iraq," said Bono, a Palm Springs Republican running for re-election against Democrat David Roth of La Quinta. She added, however, "I think it's important we stand behind as one voice."

Bono compared politicians' criticism of U.S. Army generals to Fonda's actions - "where you stand up and criticize the troops abroad and the strategy abroad," she said. "I think it's a mistake"

6. I haven't been able to find any polls
this is a red area, but heavily Latino, and they are in a bad mood this year. She is running tv ads while opponent David Roth tours the entire district in a motor coach. It is becoming a race.

3. My head almost exploded...
I thought the "Bono" in your OP title was the singer, not Sonny's Missus. I thought he might have fallen and hit his head hard on something. Seeing that it's her and not him... eh. What did you expect? She's a twit.

4. IMHO what hurts morale is unexpected extensions of duty
My experience is that cancelling wedding plans will break a soldier's morale faster than news of a protest. Most soldiers just want to get the fuck home.
