This expression comes from Alabama in the 1928 Presidential election when the Alabama senator refused to support the Democratic Presidential candidate. Alabama Democrats expressed their support for the Democratic Party by saying, “I’d vote for a yellow dog if it ran on the Democratic ticket.”

Let's all vote for our "yellow dogs". Some of us will be lucky enough to be able to vote for a progressive democrat but all of us have the dream of getting more "d"s than "r"s in Congress on 11/7 so we will have to vote for the "yellow dog" in our local race.

It really is all about majority rule in the House and Senate!

I wish I had the article but it was something like, "I'd vote for a clown over (Rethug candidate)." I remember the voter wasn't a Democrat, which made it even sweeter.
