Nasty OR House Speaker Karen Minnis, who has filled her campaign coffers by villifying gays and personally shut down both gay marriage and civil unions in Oregon, turns out she covered up a sexual assault of a 17 year old girl by her own scumbag brother-in-law. (Her scumbag husband is also a notorious gay hater).

This morning, voters in East Multnomah County started seeing television commercials with a serious and disturbing revelation about Karen Minnis - and her actions ten years ago.
The details and documentation are all available at TheMinnisFile.com. Though entirely public record, voters have never known the story before today:
Karen Minnis and her husband protected Tuck Minnis after he allegedly attempted to rape a 17-year-old girl -- an employee at their pizza restaurant in Hillsboro.
Karen Minnis and her husband -- a police officer -- chose not to believe the girl's allegations. There is no indication that they reported their teenage employee's charge to proper authorities.
Then, Karen Minnis and her husband paid $20,000 to try to make the case go away.
They kept the alleged attacker -- Karen Minnis' brother-in-law -- on their payroll for six more months. He was even living at their home when he was convicted later that year for public indecency and harassment.
We'll update here with news coverage, video of the spot, and reaction as it becomes available.

From GayRightsWatch.com:
The disturbing facts of a sexual abuse case that Oregon Speaker of the House Karen Minnis paid $20k to try and cover up and ignore. Time after time, the scandals of Karen Minnis are brushed under the rug. This is too much. When will the voters of East County see her for what she is?
It is clear that even in Karen Minnis' private life, she has no regard for protecting women from sexual predators, and in this case, protecting women from her own brother-in-law.
Loaded Orygun first had a reaction:
This is an ugly, disgusting story made worse by the fact a police officer and state legislator (and the potential Oregon House Speaker) didn't report their dirtbag relative to the police. This is a complete and total violation of the public trust.
And then, Loaded Orygun dug into the hypocrisy. Quoting Karen Minnis:
Ladies and gentlemen I think we need to send a message that it doesn't matter who you are or what you do. That if you do something like this against one of the children of this state, there will be a price to pay. There will be a price to pay. Just because a clock runs out doesn't mean that you're not going to be held accountable.
