Ga. Gov. bought 101 acres without disclosing it as required by state law.
Saturday's AJC will run this story:

"Gov. Sonny Perdue took office in 2003 after campaigning for greater transparency in state government. But within months, he bought 101 acres next to his home in Houston County without disclosing it as required by state law.

The omission obscured a conflict of interest Perdue faced in 2004 when the state had to decide whether to protect a major tract of conservation forest abutting the governor's land.

The state decided it couldn't afford to buy the pristine forest, which wound up instead in private hands.

1. Ohhh, I'd do anything to get rid of Sonny!
I doubt this will do it though. His opponent, Mark Taylor, has been running an ad talking about how he got the legislature to pass a law that managed to exempt him from $$$$ on a deal hi made in Fa, and it hasn't made any impact that I know of.

2. I too would love to oust Sonny, but sadly, I don't think Taylor is the
candidate to do it. He's as corrupt as the rethugs in Washington. The democratic party in GA needs a major shot in the arm. Hopefully, a change in Washington this year will help trickle down into our state legistature and we will be able to make a change in govenor in '08.

3. New link
That one doesn't seem to work anymore for some reason.

And let me add:

This summer, Perdue acknowledged the potential conflicts of interest he faces over buying and selling land while in office. Explaining a recent investment in Florida, Perdue said he didn't want to buy Georgia land because he didn't want to be accused of a conflict.

"If I bought land within 100 miles of a new road construction, I'd be accused by the other side of influencing that," Perdue told The Associated Press.

What's he going to say now? He said he did the Florida deal to avoid exactly this kind of conflict, but he did this conflict anyway. Sheesh.
