What a great candidate for Ohio! Native Ohioan, attended Harvard school of public health, led a research project on AIDs in Africa but was fired when her report recommended pharmas quit experimenting on the poor. She's also for reproductive rights and strong unions. Seems like a gutsy and honest person to break the Republican tradition in her district. And she's leading Mean Jean 48-40 and 48-45. Go Dr. Vic!

Victoria Elizabeth Wells Wulsin (born October 27, 1953) is a physician working on stopping the spread of AIDS in Kenya and the Democratic candidate for Congress in the Second District of Ohio (map) in the 2006 election. She is a resident of Indian Hill, a suburb of Cincinnati.

Wulsin was born in Elyria, Ohio, the daughter of a teacher and a social worker. She attended high school in Ohio and earned a scholarship to Harvard University, where she did her undergraduate coursework. After college, she returned to Ohio and received a medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland on May 28, 1980. She later received her masters and doctorate degrees in Public Health at Harvard University. Wulsin received her medical license in Ohio on March 7, 1989. Her husband, Lawson Reed Wulsin, is a psychiatrist.

In April 2003, Wulsin founded a non-profit organization to fight the AIDS disease in Africa, SOTENI International <1>—the name is a Swahili word for "all of us together" and an acronym for Sustainability, Opportunity, Training, Epidemiology, Networking, and Interdependence—which has its headquarters in Cincinnati and an office in Kenya. SOTENI has been "mainly aimed towards women and orphans who were most affected by the AIDS pandemic." <2>

Wulsin was hired by the Heimlich Institute to analyze data on AIDS patients with malaria. In December 2004, when she presented a draft report <3> that proposed significant upgrades in safeguards, oversight, and accountability before moving forward, and cautioned against further unsupervised experiments in Africa, she was fired.<4>

3. It's a great ad and Schmidt hates it, but can do nothing. LOL

I'm impressed by so many of the issue experts that are running for Congress. We could have some really strong public policies developed if these people get elected. People like Wuslin, Coleen Rowley, former FBI agent and whistleblower, and Patty Wetterling who is a child safety advocate who helped get national legislation passed.

Right now Congress is run by former RNC staff, corporate insiders and other assorted no talents.

2. I saw one of the nasty ads Mean Jean was running about her.

It was somewhere on a story about negative campaign advertising and was an example of the mean spirited attack ads. In fact, that was the way I was able to put a face and a back story to her!
