Allen, may take down Webb and McCain over book
Allen, may take down Webb and McCain over book. mcCain cannot be happy with Allen today. Being John McCain totally endorsed the books Webb wrote. OUCH You may see this again in 2008 against McCain.

2. More likely it will backfire against Allen
The voting public has lost patience with this kind of campaigning.

6. Come out of your cave
The world is bigger than your bedroom. Widen your scope a little. This is how republicans become republicans, by only reading and hearing things they like. Every time someone post something here that someone doesn't like you get dumb replies like this. (Why are you doing Drudge's work for him? nt)

7. No, this is how we commit suicide.
Drudge smears Webb and folks like you, knowingly or not, take his smear and run with it as if it is substantiated fact; demand that we treat it seriously and do Drudge's work of getting his bullshit widely circulated. Please stop. Please think. If you would like to discuss the merits of Webb's literature, might I suggest that you take this up November 8?

11. Yes
I am sure the people in VA won't hear about this. Maybe Allen will retract all the press reports he's been handing out on this. Maybe the national and local right wing talk shows will just ignore this. Maybe if were very very quit this will just go away. You are dealing with a RW sleaze machine they are dirtier than ever this year, they know there going down in the house. They will use this so it's a mistake to think if we ignore it this will go away. Did you ever hear of the swift boaters?

15. you mean the narrow world that doesn't push Rovian lowblow tactics
against democrats based on scurrilous falsehoods and items taken out of context to smear democratic candidates?

okeydoke, I'll stay in that narrow world then.

My point is skinner has already debunked this, there have already been a multitude of threads on this, and its been thoroughly debunked.

so, why, pray tell, do you "non-narrow world view' people keep posting about it? What are you accomplishing, exactly?

17. Embracing the inner defeatist - look at the very title of your post
Oh my god we are going to lose and the world is ending !!!!!

Give me a break this thing has been floating around for ten days and even some folks on the FreeRepublic sites consider it a load of shit and the whole thing is kind of crazy when
John - frickin - McCain said he thought the book was great.

And the whole out of context sections of the text refer to a bizarre culturally practice with the Westerner going "Did that just happen?" not exactly an endorsement of incest or some such shit.

People chill out stop freakin and get out the vote in November.

That is where we have to concentrate our efforts the Repukes are famous for their machine and getting out the vote we have to be ready and we cannot let these races get close enough for them to steal.

4. There May Be Lots of Red Necks in Virginia
But there are also lots of "gentle" men and women. They may be Repukes, but they hate the negative advertising. My guess is this will all backfire on Allen here in VA. Unfortunately, Allen's pockets are deeper than Webb's. If you have any extra dollars, Webb sure will use them wisely.

9. And We Know McCain
He is quick to kiss ass to benefit his own political future. I wouldn't worry about McCain. The bottom line is this show of desperation is just what it is. This won't help Allen win.

26. VA is the turning the corner more and more Dem momentum every year
But I swear Democrats don't want to take the border Southern states that are on the edge of coming over to our side.

No, they would rather have their scapegoat.

Why? Because the Democratic parties own goddamn fault the South went Repuke.

The Southern strategy worked because the Democrats never came out with a strategy for the South that isolated the racists and brought moderate working class southern voters and black voters together in a real voting block.

You had the solid fucking South right into the first election for Clinton and never had a decent response for how to deal with the wedge issues. No wonder the Dems were so surprised in 1994 at the Repuke Revolution. Clueless fucking shit.

Would rather keep losing and whining and wringing your hand and pointing at the mean old fucked up rednecks in the South where Dems lose by smaller margins than any other Repuke solid area. No we would not want to lower ourselves by going to south and putting together a coalition of poor whites and black voters. Fuck that.

Its easier to call us morons and move on.

16. But, I have questions.
I will not post them again. I posted my question in Skinners thread and would like to understand this issue myself. How can I judge what really is, if no one talks about it. I also don't agree that trying to sweep this under the rug will stop repugs from using it. Hell, look what happened to Kerry for not forcefully fighting for his reputation. Playing ostrich just won't work. We need to fight it and I want the information to do so!

18. What are your questions then?
The book was referring to a bizarre Vietnamese cultural tradition where the kissing of a penis is a greeting of all damn things with the Westerner even saying, "What did that just happen?"

No exactly a big deal.

Or do you need more info on McCain's endorsement of the book?

Do you need links to the Huffington Post debunking?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/taylor-marsh/george-allens-desperatio_b_32593.html

What more do you want I thought Skinner's debunking was quite detailed.

20. First I heard about this was
on my way home this am. Imus's show talking about banana. Is that a Vietnamese cultural tradition, is it a different book or is it a lie? You can see my question in Skinner's post.

24. It was in a scene involving strippers
cutting a banana with her vagina.

As in the whole thing about strippers in other countries doing outrageous sexual acts especially in strip joints frequented by foreigners and the military.

Hold on it was in the book "Something to Die For"

Its a book about the consequences of power which has been review this way,
Editorial Reviews, Washington Post Book World: Webb is not just a writer of war thrillers; he is a genuine novelist of ideas...A century hence, James Webb will be studied for the light he sheds on military life and civil-military relations at the climax of the American Century."

The New York Times: Brilliantly done...breathtaking in its vision.

Translation they took one scene from a good book and blew it all way out of proportion. Thank god Webb did not have the characters go to Mexico for a Donkey Show.
