(FWIW) Allen caught breaking debate rules on footage then whines
http://washingtontimes.com/metro/20061023-120304-2158r....

The men met Oct. 9 for a televised debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Virginia. The nonpartisan group says both men agreed not to use clips from the debate for campaign purposes.

The group said that it "publicly protests" the campaign ad, and that Mr. Allen, a Republican, violated the agreement. The group asked the Allen campaign to pull the ad or edit out the clip, but "it is our understanding and observation that this request was not honored."

"We're not going to take our ad down," said Allen campaign manager Dick Wadhams. "The Webb campaign was the first to violate the agreement. ... That rendered it null and void."

The group said that the Web site featuring debate footage "was not the official campaign site of either candidate" and that Mr. Webb's campaign removed links to RaisingKaine and YouTube from its official site when asked.

Mr. Wadhams said it's a moot point. "Frankly, in this day and age of the Internet, it's virtually impossible to enforce such an agreement," he said.

6. Rove crony and yes that name is funny as hell
Strangely I can't find a picture of him anywhere

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/02/18/opinion/lynch...

Daschle opponent John Thune's campaign manager was Dick Wadham, an old political crony of Karl Rove's; the kind of pal Rove could ask to hire his first cousin, John Wood, a few years back. Wadham put the bloggers on the campaign payroll and the symbiotic relationship between the campaign, the bloggers and "reporter" Gannon continued.

7. Dems have been benefiting more
from instant debate debacles being captured in YouTube bits. In our district debates have usually been as significant as as local cow chewing cud contest with only the papers giving them dry treatment by points.
If one were to cast the national debates for example only in the newspaper they would nearly always be a draw or weighted according to the whim of the paper. Instead, the instant online placement of whopping gaffes by the GOp has greatly benefited Democrats.

Now to go from there to permitting televised clips is a big step even so. The judgment of online clips tends to be fairer because the public can interact with the presentation of content. On TV the spin and editing can be so abusive as to change the significance of any clip with no criticism except- again- the lame pontificating of the newspapers or other media.

This year it should be noted that, continuing the bravura performances of inept earplug George 2004, the attention starved GOP has been vying for attention with incredible quotable lunacies a campaign manager can only dream of.(a dream for some, a nightmare for others(GOP)). Even before anything gets to the other media the online world has vetted and enjoyed all the great GOP lines trying to justify the criminal disasters of their fraudulent regime. AFTER Dems get elected it might be well to examine this wild, free bonus advantage before the GOP figures out how to warp it for their lies.

Meanwhile it is great watching, at zero cost, the GOP creating Internet advantages for the Dems then getting nailed trying to rebut them by abusive TV violations of the debate rules. The current point is that the free presentation online are to the Dem advantage(truth, justice, humor and the American way ceded on every front to Democrats) whereas the TV ads are more of the same distorted lies, tired second class ones at that.

8. It's impossible for Felix to function on a level playing field
This Republican phoney has had everything handed to him his whole life. These rich bastards think the rules are for the other guys.

Webb is going to win! At least I hope so! He's got N. Virginia for sure.

10. DAMN! The Richmond Times-Dispatch endorses Allen
Man! I thought we might get that one :grr: oh well I guess we will have to settle for the Washington Post.

http://www.timesdispatch.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename...

Today The Times-Dispatch endorses George Allen for re-election to the U.S. Senate.

Here's why.

The Times-Dispatch endorsed Allen for governor and senator, and has had no regrets.

As governor, Allen ranked as one of Virginia's most estimable -- and revolutionary -- of the 20th century. He persuaded a Democratic legislature to abolish parole, dramatically reform both welfare and the juvenile justice system, approve parental notification, and -- to raise academic performance -- establish a Standards of Learning program emulated nationwide.

He was so effective as a first-term senator that in 2004 he was named head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and the Republicans gained a stunning four seats -- including that of Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle.
