Romney has LDS church support '08 Prez bid???
The Mormon Church should have its tax exempt status yanked NOW!!!!

Check out this article: http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2006/10/20/romney_defends_mormon_strategy/

The a**wipe doesn't even have the sense to deny direct involvement by his own church?!?!?

1. We should hope for Romney getting the GOP nomination
I don't think he has a shot at it, Republicans aren't that unpragmatic. Like Gore, Romney wouldn't win his homestate (actually his ADOPTED homestate of Massachusetts), and I also think he'd have a hard time at most of the 04 swingstates as long as we run someone who's a somewhat working-class raised, non hack-human being (unlike his 02 gubinatorial opponent).

Republicans also aren't going to want to draw attention to his successor, Deval Patrick, who's about to DESTROY Romney's Lt. Governor.

2. The LDS church has never endorsed a candidate.
It has always had strict rules on not allowing the church meetings or mailing lists to be used for political candidates. I can't imagine they will change that for Romney. I wonder if this article is exaggerating the actions of a few individual Mormon leaders and making it look like something the church is doing as an organization.

3. It looks like your subject line is wrong:
From the article: The church released a statement on its website yesterday reiterating its position.

``In light of articles appearing in the media, we reaffirm the position of neutrality taken by the church, and affirm the long-standing policy that no member occupying an official position in any organization of the church is authorized to speak in behalf of the church concerning the church's stand on political issues,"
