Polls like this explain why so little outrage re: habeas corpus / torture
check out the wording on this poll question
http://poll.myway.com

President George W. Bush signed a law yesterday allowing tough CIA interrogation and military trials for terrorism suspects, triggering bitter denunciations from Democrats. The new law means Bush can continue a secret CIA program for interrogating terrorism suspects whom he believes have vital information that could thwart a plot against America. Human rights groups charge that the measure would allow harsh techniques bordering on torture, such as sleep deprivation and induced hypothermia. (Reuters)

...currently, 57% AGREE

I don't think I have to go into the errors in this characterization of the bill (ie: he doesn't have to prove to or show anything to anyone that he believes said person to have vital info, etc. etc.)...

So if you're wondering WHY there's no / so little outrage, it's because the MSM (Reuters) is NOT even calling it torture, rather, "bordering on torture"...

1. And they are saying it only applies to "terrorism suspects,"
not any old person the president happens not to like.

3. One step more, they think it only applies to "alien" terrorsim suspects

2. This explains why terror
is still in play as a political force for the Republicans. Rove is burning the mid-night oil planning the next fake terrorist threat.
