The Veterans Disability Commission report will be catastrophe for Replugs
The Veterans Disability Benefits Commission should of released their final report last week. Where is it? Delayed a year to avoid a political catastrophe on the eve of the Mid -Term Elections.
We veterans call this Commission from Hell.

This hand picked Bush Commission wants to do buy outs of veterans with Disability's. They want to lower death benefits for widows of veterans. They want to lower amounts paid to veterans with a Disability. They also will do the work for Chairman Steve Buyer the anti- veteran Replug.

This Commission was and is politically- stacked by Replugs to cut all veterans, military families, retirees and returning troops benefits. Veterans groups have long-assumed that the VDBC will have nothing but bad news for veterans. Now the proof is the wait to release the report until after the Mid-Terms. So now even since they where going to release this report Oct 1st with all the other news this report would of put a nail in the coffin of the Republican Party.

HERE IS A LINK TO THEIR WEB SITE http://www.vetscommission.org/index.asp

God Help us if we do not win the Mid=Terms

3. I posted on this info released in the National Security archives
That 1 in 4 Veterans were filing disability claims, which is a catastrophic number. RawStory picked up my post, but there hasn't been a word about it in the msm.

8. Disability "buyouts" are a tragic mistake for the disabled.
I've heard so many sad stories about the disability buyouts in workmen's comp cases. It parallels what happens with injury awards/settlements in civil law suits. Awards which need to last the life time of the recipient invariably are completely spent within about two years, and sometimes far less. Bad investments trying to create a stream of income, loans to friends and relatives which are not repaid, or just irresponsibly buying a fancy car and bigger house. Then the disabled, in desperate need of money for medication, medical treatment and just subsistance come back to the court and are told they're shit our of luck because they accepted the jury award or signed off on the settlement/buyout.

Why do insurers push buyouts? Because the insurance companies have all the actuarial information on projected life expectancy, and the companies facing say, a two million dollar projected lifetime payout know that injured, sick, financially naive people will happily settle for say $300,000 because that seems like such a HUGE amount of money to them.

14. They will kill a lot of vets this way!
A Vietnam Vet in my small town has been bragging about the lump-sum he's been told to expect. He's an alcoholic with severe diabetes and hypertension that he has never been able to keep under control due to priorities in spending his monthly check (more booze, fewer meds.)

He's talking about vacations and buying stuff for his mom, which would be great, except....he will run though that money with nothing left for his medical care which should be carefully supervised to keep him on the meds he needs.

For now, he can still fall back on medical care when his diseases are out of control, but once he goes through the lump-sum, he will be on his own.

I know that most of us believe in personal responsibility, but many people do not have the capability of self-care. This man who once served our country is no longer capable of making the right decisions and should not be given a lump-sum with no further care. Our disabled vets deserve better!

18. Bush tried to do away with troops hazard pay for fighting in combat zones
however the media got wind of it and was about to run the story when Bush decided not to go forward and issue denials of such a thing. (Rumsfeld idea)

20. You know, I'm no computer genius, but....
Sometimes documents are placed on websites without any links to them, waiting to go "live." Someone better informed than I am might consider checking to see if this is the case here.

However, I'm not sure if it's legal to do such a thing, and if it is illegal, consider my suggestion retracted.

25. No, what I meant was....
If one were seeking to secure an early release of that report, it might be worth checking to see if it's already lying dormant on the website.

If it's already complete and merely waiting for the political clouds to clear, someone may have already placed the report on the site waiting to go, but without any hyperlinks showing the way to it. A savvy computer person can search the domain and see what comes up.

The website itself appears to be somewhat shoddily constructed--it doesn't display correctly in Firefox, for example. This might suggest that we're dealing with amateurs who don't know that unlinked documents can sometimes still be directly retrieved. Someone should give it a try.
