From the Department of BWAAAAAHAHAHA!!
Train jumps tracks

Posted on Wednesday, October 11, 2006

Only weeks ago, GOP campaign officials were breathing smoke and fire. According to Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds, R-N. Y., the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, hapless Democrats had no idea what they were up against. Relentlessly negative TV commercials funded by the partys $ 50 million war chest were about to bury Democratic candidates under an avalanche of charges dug up by so-called opposition researchunpaid student loans, late tax payments, embarrassing lawsuits, etc. We havent even begun to unload this freight train, Reynolds boasted to The New York Times. Asked why the party that currently controls the White House and both houses of Congress wasnt stressing positive themes in its TV ads, he burst out laughing. If they moved things to the extent that negative ads move things, he said, there would be more of them. A few days later, Reynolds himself got run over by an off-schedule freight train in the form of the nastiest Washington sex scandal in decades. Its doubtful hes laughing now. Reynolds, see, is the guy who says he and Rep. John Boehner, ROhio, warned House Speaker Dennis Hastert last spring about Rep. Mark Foleys overly friendly e-mails to 16-yearold congressional pages.

The speaker recalls no such meeting.

That was one of the first things that crossed my mind, when I realized the Foley scandal was growing like mold in a freshly-drained New Orleans shotgun house: "Hey, I thought it was the REPUBLICANS who were threatening to haul out the DIRT?"

After all, I had just read an article about their diabolical plan, right here on DU. I remembered hoping that the other DUers and our candidates would take their threats the way I took them: by not backing down.

It seems REALITY got the better of planned propaganda. The Foley scandal is REAL--not like the planned smear-jobs the republicans were threatening. Finally, reality wins a victory in this Orwellian looking-glass wreck of what used to be a country...

2. Let's face it, Sex Sells!
I, mean come'on, just how breathless can a media talking head be over an unpaid student loan by Rep. Aristotle Plato (D-Where-ever)?

3. They're starting to "unload that freight train" though.........
the newest Harry Reid "scandal" (making money off a land deal, who ever HEARD of such a thing!) and more and more will be unloaded every day until election day. They've stopped reeling from the Foley blow (pun intended) and are now going to go on the offensive (and it WILL be offensive, believe me!).

The Renamblacans always lived by throwing mud, it's the only thing they know how to do. They certainly can't run on their track record. So expect the next few weeks to be a real mud-fest. They're hoping to bury their own muddy existence by creating an avalanche of mud directed at the Democrats.

It's not going to be an enjoyable time between now and election day. They've only begun to sling.

8. I can't take credit for that.
some other DUer coined the word, I just liked the connotation so I use it at will. It describes the Repiglickens quite well I think.

5. You know what, though?
This latest book by David Kuo is going to be a pretty big nail in the GOP coffin. This guy is the real deal, and EVERYBODY knows it. I predict a fundie exodus from the Grand Ol' Perverts.

6. But they've got nothing that's real
The Reid 'scandal' got debunked within a couple of hours.

That's whats great about the internets. You can cancel their crap out before it has a chance to take root. I sure in a few days, only the most diehard news junkies will even remember the Reid story.

Nothing hurts politics as usual like a citizenry that can verify just how stinky their cow crap really is.

7. Oh, sure, but
let's face it, if it's any sort of financial-dealings smear, the public will respond with a huge yawn. Notice that for over 6 years they couldn't get any traction out of the Whitewater nonsense. Nor could they get any traction out of "Hillary's commodities trading gain".

Most people (especially in Bush-world, where you're either a billionaire or a member of the underclass--nothing in between) don't have enough money to know much about investing in real estate, or in commodities trading.

OTOH, there is one "issue" that millions of people think about literally the moment they open their eyes on any given day: the safety of their children.

I don't think WE'RE running any child predators this election season. So if they want to hyperventilate about some candidate's "unpaid student loans", all I can say is PUH-leeeze!
