The Republicans are blaming the gays.
To the freepers and their ilk, the Foley scandal isn't about a Congressman taking advantage of a page, something that most people would see as an issue regardless of gender, nor about a failure of Congressional leadership in overseeing the page program, but about homosexuality. Their political response is to charge the Democratic Party with hypocrisy because it doesn't see homosexuality as a problem. Of course we don't. What they fail to see is that the core problem had nothing to do with Foley's being gay, or the gender of the page to whom he was attracted, and that what actually would have been a small problem became a large problem only because Republican leadership was incapable of seeing the real problem through their homophobia.

The fallout of their response is interesting. The Republicans will squeeze gay staffers out. They will force gay Republican Congressmen even further in the closet. They will become more vocal that their party is anti-gay, and no place for gays. Which is the truth. And a truth that we need to champion as much as they: Anyone who is a gay or who has a gay friend or who has a gay relative is betraying themself or their friend or their relative when they support the GOP.

The GOP wants to become more open in their homophobia because of Foley? Good!

1. The only way they can get anything positive out of this story is to use
it to press their anti gay wedge issue. They are trying to making lemonade out of their lemons.

2. Good observation...
What the right fails to think about is that if Foley had been pursuing young girls in the same way, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EQUALLY REPULSIVE. As you said, this is NOT a gay issue - it's a pedophelia issue. Two very distinctly different things.

the gays.

6. Of course they are....
The majority of pedophile sexual predators are straight men fixated on girls. That strikes a little too close to home for these family values types. It means you have to wonder why uncle Bob is so friendly to your 12 year old daughter. How much easier to think all you have to worry about is gays, and you don't know any of those people.

7. Missing the whole point.. They do not want any gays in positions
of authority. Straight pedophilia has nothing to do with it.. The anti gay people are eating it up.. It totally fits in with everything they have been preaching for so long. If more gay people in congress are outed, so much better.. Just think Joseph Mc Carthy for answers as to how it will go.

8. sadly i have to admit that I have 1 neocon friend and he believes it.
this is my old high school friend, we go way back. I rarely talk about politics/religion/race to him b/c it just gives me a headache listening to his reasons and some ppl and too ignorant to reason w/. I went over to his place today to play a game of hoops and the Foley scandal topic came up.
Basically all the info he gets is from TV, and he and his family only watches Fox-News or sports. He basically believe anything that come out the Fox-News or WH rhetoric and told me that "those gays are covering-up for Foley and the Speaker is taking the blame" and that "gays shouldn't work, let alone hold congress." I can only guess were he got that conclusion. We argue about the issue, but like always he already made up his mind. sigh *shake head*

Anyway I hope this incident cause more neocons to discrimante against gays b/c some are too stupid to distinguish b/w a sexual predator pedophile and gay ppl. sad.

Somedays it feels like I'm are living in the movie "V for Vendetta."

10. Wonder what the Log Cabin Republicans are thinking?
How many times do you need to be kicked in the balls by the same group of thugs before you get idea that they don't want you in their club. Of course that begs the question of why any gay would want to be a part of that group in the first place.

11. The Vatican blamed gay priests for their pedophile problems
Seventy years ago it was the Jews that got blamed for everything. Today is the gays and Israel that get blamed for everything.

12. Don't forget that Clinton bastard forced the gays to be gay.
That bastard! :sarcasm:

This has been your daily "It's all Clinton's fault" moment of right-wing hysteria.
