The current (Republick) political calculus
"Every Man for Himself"

That's what has happened to the vaunted Republick Machine.

In the House we have everyone after Hasturd, particularly his second and third, Messers Boner (Boehner) and Blunt (Blount).

In the Religiously Insane wing of the party, we have Vigurie and Dobson and the other nutters feeling really betrayed and calling for everybody to stay home.

The Big Guns are no longer being seen on the yakking head shows, throwing out there, instead, a string of B-Teamers.

They are simply unable to control the agenda or the discourse.

ABC, which just ran a screed against the Dems, is now the source of the biggest grenade to explode thus far this season.

Woodward, the former administration toady, has written a very harsh book that can serve to unhinge everything they've said to be true.

Their candidates are doing themselves in. Macaca, Corker, Burns, Foley, others.

Race after race that were seen as non-competitive ..... now are. Each day another race is moved to the 'leans Dem' column. The national party is unable to stop it.

Vote machine chicanery is now being openly discussed in the media ..... and not in a kind way. Most all campaigns are making it some sort of issue. It will be much harder to cheat. And any cheating that might be effective will have to be pretty widespread.

The Dems, for their part, are increasingly singing from the same page of the hymnal. Pelosi, for example, was all over the Foley thing from the day it was announced, literally holding up the end of the Congress to make a floor speech calling for fast investigations; whether they happen or not almost doesn't matter - we were **ON** it. The Dems have no Plan meme is becoming increasinly unplayable as we have speaker after speaker all over the media saying that we do have a plan; only the media is still hanging onto this tired refrain anymore.

Even in the races where Dems were seen as being in jeapordy, we're now seeing very positive signs of things coming back our way (Menendez being the big one).

The electorate is just plain pissed off. They hate the war. they distrust the Republicks. They see the sham that is lowering gas prices. The new stock market (mini) record hasn't even been given more than a paranthetical mention; it was, essentially, a non event.

President Stupid has poll numbers heading south again. He is increasingly irrelevant ..... which is actually an electoral improvement over the alternative - his actual drag on the party.

On October 4, 2006, a few days more than a month in advance of the elections, it is not looking good for the party in power.
