DENIAL:

There was no vote tampering, voter suppression, or vote machine manipulation in the 2000 and 2004 elections. Bush won fair and square.

No one could possibly have anticipated using commercial airlines as missiles. No one could possibly have anticipated that the levees would be breached. No one could possibly have anticipated that there would be a strong insurgency.

There was no cherry-picking of intelligence. We all honestly believed that Iraq had WMDs.

We never implied that there was a connection between Saddam Hussein and 9-11.

We never implied that we knew where the WMDs were.

ANGER:

If you disagree with the Administration’s policies you are not a patriot!!!

If you don’t get behind the president, you are aiding and abetting the enemy!!!

The anti-war crowd is jubilant every time a US soldier is killed in Iraq, because they want the terrorists to win!!!


BARGAINING:

Just give up a few of your freedoms, and we’ll protect you in exchange. Trust us.

Tax cuts for wealthy individuals and corporations will trickle down to the middle class, so it’s a win-win situation. Trust us.

Outsourcing American jobs will actually mean more high-paying jobs here at home. Trust us.

Let us put the country into debt – it will actually strengthen the economy. Trust us.

Spying on American citizens is unlawful, but don’t you want to give the president the tools he needs to keep America safe? Trust us.

Torture is a terrible thing; but isn’t it worth it, if it saves American lives? Trust us.

As usual, another spot on critique of the Republican political machine. However, I don't see November 7,2006 as the moment of acceptance for the GOP. It will take longer than that because they'll kick, scream, throw tantrums, mud sling and perhaps declare marshal law before they cede the reigns of power to Democrats. They will not go gently into that good night. And that's not even considering Diebold's part in this play. We all know of elections that SHOULD have broken this wicked spell cast upon Americans but DIDN'T because of...........Diebold. Hopefully their nefarious ministrations are negated by the sheer volume of anti-GOP votes this November, but somehow, I doubt it. We must be ultra-vigilant this election year and challenge all "funny" results to the highest degree.
I DO love your writing though, Nance. Keep up the good work.

What about further down the report where it says:
“Should jihadists leaving Iraq perceive themselves, and be perceived, to have failed, we judge fewer fighters will be inspired to carry on the fight.”

Although you do make a good point. There was Bin Laden's quote:
"The best proof of this is the Americans' continuing aggression against the Iraqi people using the Peninsula as a staging post<.>…espite the great devastation inflicted on the Iraqi people by the crusader-Zionist alliance, and despite the huge number of those killed, in excess of 1 million... despite all this, the Americans are once against trying to repeat the horrific massacres, as though they are not content with the protracted blockade imposed after the ferocious war or the fragmentation and devastation. except that statment was issued in 1998 (under Clinton's watch).

Ok, so you bring up fine points about why Iraqis hate us. What about all the non-Iraqi terrorists?

And do you honestly believe that the Iraqis were better off with Saddam than without him? My uncle's currently working in Iraq (he works in the diplomacy wing of the government) and has said conditions are better than they once were.

Besides that, Bush has lied about EVERYTHING? He said there was a connection between Al Queda and Iraq and hey! there's a quote from Bin Laden justifying attacks on America because of Iraq (again, this quote was long before Bush took office).

Finally, could you please detail for me exactly what civil liberties you personally have lost.

Of course, if you do not respond, I'll assume that jack-booted thugs have invaded your home and carried you away. In which case, that does answer my question.

Yes, everything is going REALLY WELL in Iraq. People being gunned down in the streets on their way to forage for clean drinking water, up to TWO (count 'em, TWO) hours of electricty per day when it used to be twenty-four. Tens of thousands dead, hundreds of thousands already fled from the country due to the constant violence. No work, hospitals in shambles, schools empty because it's not safe for kids to venture out on the streets to get there.

In fact, it sounds so COOL, maybe you should grab a uniform and head over there yourself.

Thank you for answering my question. I guess you're right, that things for the Iraqis were far better under Saddam. After all, what does freedom matter as long as your safe, secure and "the trains run on time" as they say.

Yeah, that's some freedom we've imposed at gunpoint, huh? When Iraqis are free to shop or go for a walk without risking being shot or blown up, when they have more than a couple of hours of electricity per day, when they have access to decent health care and clean water, when they are free to elect whatever government they want - even if it's a theocratic one - then come back and extol the wonders of their freedom.

Things were better for the Iraquis under Saddam, yes. And that's quite a sobering thought. The country was better off under a brutal tyrant than under the tender ministrations of George W. Bush and the Pentagon. How appalling is that?

And your President doesn't give a crap about your freedom or your safety either. The War on Terror is just a pyramid scheme. And if you haven't realized that by now, no amount of lurking on this site or any other will get the message across to you.

let it work out like that! Now that they've got their base all disgusted and panicked, let this be the thing that brings them down. I think that once people start looking at this they'll be more receptive to look at all the other crimes and negligence. At least some of the hard core Republicans I know are beginning to see the light. But I think it is going to be close.
