i just heard that the rnc will replace foley on the ballot.
they will mail everyone to tell them to vote for foley but this other person will win the seat if foley wins. is this legal? can they just replace him with no input from voters, e.g. primaries?

2. The ballots are printed,no way to replace them, so a vote
for The Sexual Predator of Underage Teenage Boys is a vote for whoever they choose to replace The Sexual Predator of Underage Teenage Boys.

3. That's what they said on the NBC News tonight, but...
... most political pundits they interviewed tonight said that the Republican stench will be too much to overcome this time.

Republicans ---->

4. People have been posting Florida law to that effect. So it will be
"pay no attention to the fact that you are voting for this pervert, you are really voting for another person, who we promise is not a pervert, despite the fact that we concealed our knowledge that the pervert whose name is on the ballot was one for almost a year." I can't imagine that will sell well.

13. thanks. that thread dropped off the first page while i was
out today. i was supposed to be calling voters for moveon.org for foley's dem opponent today but it got cancelled at my location. as i advised the host, we still need to get out the vote for the dem. some repubs may not find out about foley's 'indiscretions' until after the general election because faux news probably won't run it.

16. In fact, Faux Snooze has been running it quite a bit.
Granted, I'm sure they're not giving it the 24-hour blitzkrieg coverage that a Dem congressman might have garnered, but they haven't shied away from it either. Actually been brave enough to check in with the Murdock crowd the past day or two, just to see what's going down.

(However, I did catch one exchange on their "friends" segment earlier today: two of the hosts were discussing the seriousness of this Foley mess, and were actually being quite fair and sincere in their criticism. But the women in the middle (no clue what their names are, they could be Huey, Dewey and Louie for all I care!) kept on yelling about how this kind of thing goes on all the time, this is nothing new, this is no big deal, and when her co-hosts pressed her she naturally cited a couple of examples from 15-20 years ago, and of course they were both democrats. At least the other two were looking at her like she was nuts!)

6. Yes, as I understand it
Florida law stipulates that after the primary the candidate's name remains on the ballot if he withdraws from the race. The Party of the candidate may designate a person who will receive the votes the withdrawn candidate gets. In this case, State Rep Joe Negron is expected to be designated by the repubs to receive Foley's votes.

7. Basically they're replacing him
But it's his name on the ballot on election day.

Basically, if you live in FL-16. The part of your ballot for US Representative is gonna look like this.

Republican: Mark A Foley
Democratic: Timothy Edward Mahoney
Independent:Emmie Lee Ross

Now, I shouldn't think many voters are gonna pick the name of Mark Foley now, are they?

8. This is what Mahoney (the Democrat) should do
Since Foley's name will be on the ballot as the Republican nominee, and his replacement will not actually be on the ballot, Mahoney should just run the campaign as if Foley is the nominee. Just ignore his appointed replacement. Confuse voters into thinking that Foley is on the ballot (it's the Rove Muddy Waters strategy, really).

9. Just have the new candidate change their name to "Mark Foley"
Edited on Sat Sep-30-06 10:24 PM by longship
I can hear the radio ads now.
"I'm Mark Foley, not the pedophile sex predator, and I approve this message."

That will work, won't it?

20. Can't change name on ballots. They could try to have a special election
before the general election. But any votes cast for a Republican in that CD must be cast under Mark Foley. They can chose who those votes will eventually go to according to a special administrative council. Oh, please let them try to have an election when so many Republicans are going to be under investigation and are already known collaborators with a known child abuser and harasser.! This massive Republican conspiracy needs to stay in the media 24/7.

When you know an older person is hitting on a kid and you do nothing to intervene (according to Foley's law!) you are guilty as well. You're also a complicit scumbag of the lowest order. You know, some parents would rather not have to say I never knew anything was happening when their child gets abused or molested by a Republican member of the House or Senate. Parents are just like that.

So House Speaker Republican Dennis Hastert is trying to have those who broke the story investigated instead of Republicans on the hill? If the media doesn't correct this one, it's time to see who in the media is being fed little boys or girls for their pleasure.
