GOP wants TWO PHOTO IDS and you now will pay to vote ( Wisc)
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=501788
This is a real attack on free and fair voting. The GOP is doing anything and everything they can to reduce the number of votes cast, by making it harder to do so. Claiming there is rampant voter fraud, which there is literally none. The only serious discrepencies have occurred in the Diebold voting machines that have cast votes far beyond the number of registered voters.

The federal bill, as passed by the House, avoids one of the early objections to the Georgia law: that it would put the burden of paying for photo IDs on voters, which critics said would effectively disenfranchise those who couldn't afford them.

YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY TO VOTE NOW.

"We have to know that whoever wins - your guy, my guy, conservative, liberal, Republican, Democrat - he or she really won," said Rep. Mark Green R-WI, whom a GOP colleague introduced on the floor as Wisconsin's "next governor."
While Green made these statements, the day before he goes to court to argue his illegal campaign transfer of $467,000, he also found new charges that he is under investigation for even more illegal individual donations!
The GOP has had an ongoing 'witch hunt' to find anything they can call fraud, as was a case with Cynthia Alicea, who went to her polling place, was told she had to register, and the pollworker screwed up the forms three times before she could vote. This is the case that Green cited as ballot discrepancies and fraudulent votes cast in Wisconsin in 2004. "We've had far too many elections in recent years where serious questions have emerged over irregularities and even fraud," he said.
The voter was not the problem, but inept pollworkers and confusing registration forms.
What Green and the GOP fail to understand is that Wisconsin failed to pass any Voter ID law, and one was vetoed. The new registration form allows a citizen to use the last four digits of their Social Security card, as a means to validate their citizenship and residency, along with current utility bills, a rental lease, and of course the word of another registered voter.
The GOP House and Mr's. Green & Sensenbrenner feel that the only way to make sure that a vote can count, assuming every past election was raft with fraud and corruption, is to require TWO PHOTO ID's, one from the state and a new federal ID that proves you are an actual citizen.
This stunt, is purely an attack on voters and designed to reduce the voter turnout. I am sure, in November, that there will have been a campaign, by the GOP, via emails and phone calls, to intimidate voters into thinking they need these ID's to vote.
Like most of the GOP's recent election legislation, there is no way to pay for such a program....that will come later. Promoting a problem that doesn't exist is a key to GOP policy. They love to make stuff up. Creating fear and doubt is how they rally their own 'stormtroopers'.
Of course, the GOP is afraid all those illegal immigrants are voting. And all the felons, Cubans in Florida and those who cannot afford a car that have no need for a Driver's License.
This idiotic ID plan will, like nearly every voting change they have proposed and legislated, will wind up in court. Georgia, one of the most GOP states in the nation just tossed that Voter ID plan as
Hell, just about everything this "GOP ship of fools" has done, since 2001, wound up in court and lost!
This is the true

4. So? Most GOP voters are two-faced hypocrites anyway.
Hence the need for two ID's.

5. I'm waiting for Republicans to do something right even if by accident

They TALK about "principles" and being "right" and often refer to "logic"...

I realize now the CORE of being a Republican is to LIE.

EVERYTHING they do CONSISTANTLY has the effect of pushing their well known agenda to benefit the rich, lower wages, disinfrancise the poor (ie: reduce their right to vote) and increase pain and suffering.

edit: spelling

6. ID requirement HOLE
doesn't matter how many id's (federal/state/local or from the planet Mars) are required. If someone is going to partake in VOTER FRAUD - id's and related documents are easy enough to get (think identity theft) so it's not going to matter one hoot how many id's are required.

many state now or will shortly be requiring birth certificates and social security card when you get or renew your driver's license. many of these same states already allow for MOTOR VOTER registration. In my state (PA) you also receive a voter registration id card which has your name/address party affiliation and districts listed on them (no pic...yet)

so let me ask the numbnuts in the legislatures -- how many freaking times do I have to prove that I'm me? How many pieces of freaking ID's are really needed? What's next? DNA testing before I can press a button on a freaking DIEBOLD machine that can be easily rigged to change my vote?

7. If they were truly interested in preventing FRAUD, they'd change the
way votes are COUNTED, not the way they are CAST.
