That is what bush told Katrina survivors today. A novel idea that a president would take responsibility for something the federal government had a big part in being responsible for. But now what?

I harken back to 93. I had a young Sailor working for me. A proficient, hardworking young man who unfortunately had no concept of financial management. One weekend he wrote 3 insufficient funds checks to people who did not appreciate it (not his first financial misstep.) He lost a stripe, lost a big chunk of his paycheck and lost his naval career. He looked sharp in his Dress Blues at his Captain's Mast when the old man threw the book at him. He crisply saluted the Commanding Officer when dismissed and wiped the tears from his eyes when he exited the ready room knowing that his time in uniform was just about up. He took "full responsibiity" for a wrong done to others and he was justly punished relative to the tenants of the UCMJ.

In bush's world there is no just punishment. And a republican taking responsibility for anything is totally meaningless and most likely stated for political reasons. I hope my Young Sailor is doing well.
