John Fund on CNN: Bush deserves credit, "We haven't been hit in 5 years"

He's part of a panel on Lou Dobbs (Kitty Pilgrim guest-hosting).

He's brought up the fact that we haven't been hit since 9/11, "to Bush's credit."

He also said that since Bush's approval rating is 42%, as opposed to 35% in July (not sure which poll Pilgrim was quoting) "He's up 7 percent...and that's not insignificant."

Fund can find the silver lining in every Bush cloud. He DID, however, admit that Bush is not "exuding confidence," and as a result cannot "lead" the American people through two more years of war.

The other two people on the panel (Ed Rollins was one, I forget the other) basically said that whatever Bush is doing isn't enough, that the American people want to know "What's in it for me" when it comes to the Iraq war.

1. The fact that we were hit 5
years ago on bushwatch needs to be brought up everytime some loser says bush and credit in the same sentence and we were hit after 9/11 with anthrax attacks in the Senate building that the keystone cops haven't been able to come up with any perpetrators, either.

9. Not just hit 5 1/2 years ago but hit after AWOL got a warning entitled...
"Bin Laden set to Strike US."

And he NEVER lifted a finger in response. Didn't even call the airlines to increase security.

18. Righto! bush went on vacation And
totally ignored the August 6, 2001 memo. A free press would point that out instead of covering for him. There would be no bush if we had a media that wasn't so beholden to their tax cuts and corporatemeisters and terrified of a Democracy.

15. Do the math. They only have some much time on these segments
two Repubs get to talk and convey their view point twice as long as ONE demo.

6. Yeah, we haven't been hit since 9/11, "to Bush's credit."
What these idiots never mention is the fact that WE DID get hit on 9/11, ON BUSH'S WATCH, after repeated warnings from his own advisors that it was imminent.

Never forget: We GOT hit on 9/11 ... TO BUSH'S CREDIT!!!

11. Right you are!
Something that Fund and the rest don't mention is that we were hit at all. Not only were there warnings that something imminent may happen but they also neglect to mention that these types of attacks were anticipated. Note the date of the following press release announcing the completion of the third phase of the report of what we needed to do to make America safer.

Hart/Rudman -- 21st Century Commission Recommends New Anti-Terror Cabinet Agency

A bipartisan panel led by former US senators Warren B. Rudman and Gary Hart on Wednesday called for the creation of a Cabinet-level agency to assume responsibility for defending the United States against the increasing likelihood of terrorist attacks in the country. The commission making the recommendation included high-ranking military and former Cabinet secretaries. Their report warned bluntly that terrorists probably will attack the US with nuclear, chemical or biological weapons at some point within the next 25 years.

The commission proposed a complete redesign of the National Guard to provide the proposed new "Homeland Security Agency" with U.S.-based troops to combat those who threaten a nation that for more than two centuries was isolated from attack by two oceans. The panel outlined a far-reaching reorganization of the Pentagon, State Department, National Security Council and other agencies, saying that they have become bloated and unfocused. The report even urged Congress to streamline its own committee structure to keep interference in national security matters at a minimum.

The commission acknowledged that implementing the recommendations would be difficult. Congress would have to pass legislation authorizing the changes. If all of the recommendations were to become law, it would mark the most sweeping renovation of US defense and foreign policy operations since approval of the landmark National Security Act of 1947. Like that measure, which refocused World War II-era agencies on the challenges of the Cold War, the commission's plan is intended to ready the nation for starkly different threats in a new century.

The panel, in what many are calling a radical departure from "conventional wisdom," recommended folding the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Customs Service, Border Patrol and Coast Guard into the new "Homeland Security Agency." It said that the National Guard should be "reorganized, properly trained and adequately equipped" to cope with natural disasters and attacks on U.S. targets by weapons of mass destruction. The commission said that the National Guard should be relieved of the responsibility of participating in overseas deployments and concentrate on security at home.

16. Well, not only a woman beater, but...

In 1982, worked for Rowland Evans and Robert Novak as a reporter.

Fund, a conservative journalist, reported on a lot of dirt, including the Monica Lewinsky affair. But he became involved in his own dirt when his girlfriend/fiancee Morgan Francis Pillsbury accused him in 2001-2 with spousal abuse, resulting in his arrest.

According to columnist Cynthia Cotts, Fund's apartment is replete with "dirty dishes, unopened mail, and bottles of alcohol from hotel minibars... covered with piles of black socks and dirty underwear."

Girlfriend: Morgan Francis Pillsbury (1999, later accused him of battery)

19. so what? No convictions for terror crimes in six years
Where are the terrorists he has made cases against? Lots of guys in Guantanamo and NO ONE CHARGED. Is that competence?

It's not to Bush's credit that there have been no attacks. Unless he was supposed to send them and didn't. Terrorisim is just very very rare in the US, always has been. That is why it is SO STUPID to have a war against it. It only gives Caligula somthing to base his useless government killing Presidency on. A big lying fantasy that he fucked up at anyway. That's his strong suit.

20. We hadn't been hit
on our soil 5 years before 9/11, either. So what?

This isn't an example of cause and effect. Just because we haven't been hit in 5 years doesn't been Bush can take credit. There were nearly 8 years between the 1st and 2nd WTC attacks.

Lots of reasons other than Bush for no attacks. Could be bin Laden got what he wanted - US out of Saudi Arabia. Could be they don't have to attack - just send out a video and we up our defense spending, which adds to our growing deficit. Win-win for bin.

Could be it's just more fun for them to watch us self destruct in Iraq.

22. There are logical reasons that the US has not had a
massive attack since 911. They have little to do with Busholini and his Fascist Regime protecting America.

Think about that.

I will return and offer my reasons later. I have to take care of other things at this time.

Later.

21. We weren't hit for eight years between first WTC (1993) and second one
And Big Dog was President for almost all of that time.

So using their lame logic, doesn't that mean that Democrats can protect us better from terror?

I keep waiting for some talking head to rebut with that but they don't seem to have the ability.

24. Right after the GOP gives Clinton credit
for us not being hit from 2/27/93 until 1/20/01.

I won't hold my breath.

The GOP seems to forget 9/11 happened on Junior's watch. They act as if his term started 9/12/01.
