Poll question: Could Joe Lieberman's candidacy move the Dem party to the right?
What if it became a national trend even, for centrist Democrats to run as so-called "Independent Democrats" in an effort to move the party to the right. Would it work?

1. Depends
on how he does in November and a myriad of other facts. I don't think this to be a trend, but it could cause some to think a bit more outside the box...

If he wins in November, it will have major implications.

10. One of them being
even more political apathy on the left.

I'm SO sick to death of being unrepresented that a shift to the right by the DNC will turn me into a green or something else. I'm hoping - and working - on keeping the DNC as an opposition to the GOP as opposed to a mere "same thing/different name".

13. Exactly right. Much will depend on the results in November.
But of course, there IS still hope he'll drop out before then. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for That Outcome. :)

3. Other.
The Party is already triangulated so far to the right, that if it goes any further to the right, we might as well all just be Republicans, fercripessake.

Democratic "Moderates" are now just to the Left of Attila the Hun, and "Liberals" are what the moderates used to be.

This has GOT to stop.

5. I dare say it will move the party slightly to the left
I'm hoping that more than a few DINOs will play "Follow the Lieberman", thereby relieving the party of their Republican "values."

7. I don't see it happening. This "loophole" is specific to CT,
Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 04:31 PM by pinto
and I'm guessing that it's pretty unique. (The "independent Democrat" clause)

And I'm going to hazard a guess that centrist Democrats in other states would not have as strong a primary challenge as Lamont's proved to be in Connecticut.

8. if we are lucky,
then itd just make another party where traditional conservatives flocked to get away from the crazy neo-cons ... and say heck yeah to that.
divide and conquer.

they want that to happen to us, they hope the party will split over on our side ... but we have a unified goal of taking back control so thats not gonna happen anytime soon.

i do , tho, for see a future with two partys becoming four because of party splits.

9. Gawd I hope not
I'd hate to see the DNC overtake the GOP on the right side of the spectrum.

show we've moved to the LEFT.

15. i voted for 'other' because...
...the longer Leiberman remains in the race, the more it divides the DP between establishment-type DLC'ers, and a marginally-to-more 'leftist/progressive' rank and file. Regardless of who wins, the result will only accelerate this split into a schism.
