1. Maybe because...
This news came because the British police are actually doing their jobs and is not part of some massive Rovian conspiracy.

4. Maybe they want a 3rd party splitter Libermann? Or this is to save Blair?

7. The problem with either:
-The Republican is polling below 20%. He's not going to win this period.
-Absolutely nothing is going to save Blair, and Blair is probably fine with that. Everyone at the last elections was not expecting him to finish his third term, that he would resign and Brown would take over before the next elections was also a certainty. Any events will only effect Blair's eventual leaving by a few months at most.

So maybe we can use Occam's Razor and see there is no need for tinfoil?

5. They want Lieberman to win...AS AN INDEPENDENT....
No advantage for him to win (and caucus) as a Democrat.

10. Lieberman's not going to win as an independent either!
He doesn't have the cash from the democratic party anymore. And for what it's worth, Pat Buchanan says he's not going to win either! He said, for Lieberman to win, he's got to attack Lamont.........and Buchanan said that's not Lieberman's style.

And IMO, they couldn't release the info until now because it was a British investigation and the Brits probably wouldn't let them release the info early. If they had, it would have spoiled their big bust last night and that would really have pissed off the Brits!

6. AARRRGGGHHH!
There are already dozens of posts about this. THEY DIDN'T WANT JOE TO WIN. He is far more valuable to them, politically, as a spoiler.

8. If you don't think that Lieberman's loss isn't going to help ChimpCo
Then you are not paying very close attention. Look at what's happening.

ChimpCo and his neocon hoards are lining up for Lieberman like their lives depended on it. Furthermore, if you listen to Lieberman and listen to ChimpCo and his shills, the rhetoric is identical. Look for not only similar phraseology, but identical phraseology--a clear sign of a common source.

The best thing to happen to ChimpCo in almost five years is Lieberman's defection. The only way this happens is if Lamont wins.

Yes, I think Lamont won fair and square. But, virtually nothing about this Lieberman affair that has happened since is anything but to plan.

In short, Lieberman is being used as a tool by ChimpCo and the neocons. It is imperative that the Democratic Party get their shit together and put a stop to it once and for all.

11. They actually had no control in the US
It was a UK operation. To Rove, it worked out well.

Now they have Lamont to demonize as the new McGovern and portray the Dems as a party captured by the extreme left.

They have a new demon.

They did go out yesterday and say al-Queda in every sentence because they knew the bust was coming soon and the Brits probably told them Thursday a few days ago.

12. they might have preferred to...

...but considering the Brits are already pretty PO'd at the WH for ruining one of their previous investigations, they weren't told all the details until the investigation moved onto arrests. Last night.

They are sure doing the best they can to capitalize off it, though.

14. Listen to Malloy - they knew since LAST FRIDAY of the
Plot against the airlines. BUSH KNEW SINCE FRIDAY! SIX DAYS AGO! They sent Cheney out to bach the Dems as weak on terrisim on Wed, Tony Snow criticized Dems similarly before the news broke about the plot. The Rove plan is to beat the terrorism hammer over the heads of Democrats until November. He wanted Lamont to win the primary to paint the dems as weak on security. That's all. Lieberman is his willing puppet - how pathetic of a whiny little man - that Lieberman, er Loserman!

15. there are a number of reasons
For one thing, the British were still apparently actively investigating leads, and going public would have ended that investigation. The Brits came out with the info today because they came to believe the attack could be imminent.

But strategically, the administration gets much more bang for the buck by waiting until after the primary. It allowed them to paint Lamont, along with similar dems and similar democratic challengers, as soft on terrorism (knowing full well, as they did this, that they would soon be announcing another major threat).

It allows them to use the Lamont example from now until election day. Even though more people now consider dems better equipped to deal wtih terrorism than repubs, repubs still poll better on terrorism than on any other issue (accept gay marriage, which isn't a pressing concern this cycle). Therefore, the best chance the repubs have to win is by pushing the war on terror and somehow flipping the issue back to the repubs. The Lamont example is how they planned to do it.

Further, Lieberman as an independent candidate helps them immeasurably in any number of ways. It drains democratic resources, for one thing, as dems are forced to battle for that seat. It also allows them to continue pushing the comparison between the "radical left" which has taken over the party versus the "tough on terror" dems that the party has rejected. You see, they'll say, you can't really trust the dems on terror, because they have expelled the only guy in the party who really cared about defending our country.

Of course, they figure Lieberman will win the general election anyway, so they don't lose anything by allowing Lamont to win as a straw-man whipping boy. A Lieberman who won Tuesday's primary would return to the senate as a democrat. But a lieberman who returns to the senate as an independent will, though still caucasing with the democrats, be less loyal to the party and perhaps even wind up owing favors to republicans from his independent campaign.

That said, I think there strategy will fail. But it does make more sense, in my opinion, than using this information to beat lamont in the primary.
