He's probably too much of an ass to say, but I think he owes it to Connecticut voters to be up front about whether he'll caucus with the Democrats or the Republicans.

1. He should
This whole idea of running as an independant really means little, because in the end, you caucus for one side or the other.

2. Let him form "A Caucus of One".
But he's really been on the same page as the Shrubistas all along, anyway.

4. He said specifically during the primary campaign that...
... he would remain a DEM and that he would caucus with the DEMS.

OTOH, things change.

5. Where ever he sees the most opportunity for Joe.
He has already shown that he puts his personal desires ahead of all else.

6. He's a Democrat. Take a wild friggin guess.
The guy has stated repeatedly and on the record that he will caucus with the Democrats if re-elected. If you didn't know that, then you certainly know it now.

7. I "certainly know it now"?
You said it in your post, but that alone hardly qualifies for certainty in my book.

To repeat the old cliche, got a link?

9. Got a link? Sure. But did you even try to confirm this yourself?
Seriously, this is something you'd have to go out of your way not to know.

Anyway, googling "Lieberman" "Caucus" and "Democrats" in Google News brought up the following link:

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/08/10/mg.thu /

Here's the key sentence:

<<Despite getting the cold shoulder from party leaders, Lieberman has vowed to remain a Democrat and said he will continue to caucus with Democratic senators.>>

8. The Democratic Party had a primary, he lost.
He is not an honorable person, why would anybody believe him?

10. He's not a Dem...he's the candidate for "Connecticut for Lieberman"
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 10:46 AM by MercutioATC
...and "Connecticut for Lieberman" is working to defeat the endorsed Democratic candidate (who won the primary).

Joe WAS a Democrat. The second he formed his own political party to thwart the will of Democrats, ce ceased being one.

12. If you think he'll caucaus with the Democrats
I wonder why he's issuing Karl Rove talking points to bash his own party?

"We are at war with a brutal enemy," said Lieberman during a campaign stop Thursday at a Waterbury pizza joint. "How the heck can we be in a battle in which we are fighting as Democrats and Republicans against each other when these terrorists certainly don't distinguish based on party affiliation? They want to kill any and all of us."

"I'm worried that too many people, both in politics and out, don't appreciate the seriousness of the threat to American security and the evil of the enemy that faces us - more evil or as evil as Nazism and probably more dangerous that the Soviet Communists we fought during the long Cold War," Lieberman said.

"I want to make sure that I satisfy my responsibilities and use my seniority in the Senate to make the future of the families of Connecticut safer than it would otherwise be. I don't think that Ned Lamont gets that and that's a serious difference between us."

"If we just pick up like Ned Lamont wants us to do, get out by a date certain, it will be taken as a tremendous victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this plot hatched in England. It will strengthen them and they will strike again."
