My sense of the (political aspects) of the latest terror plot .......
I DO believe the plot is essentially as has been reported.

I DO believe it was real and I believe, if they could have, the bad guys would have.

I DO believe the timing of the arrests was absolutely apolitical and was the result of some investigative development that made *today* the day to do the big bust.

I do NOT believe the cabal caused this, timed this, delayed this, advanced this, or in any political way controlled it.

I DO believe they knew about it before today. I do believe they knew the bust would be today, or maybe tomorrow.

I DO believe they used the time from when the Brits told them to now to write the spin script. I believe that Mehlman knew it in advance of the rest of us (a security leak?) and framed his most recent rantings to fit the situation.

I DO believe Darth knew this when he made his latest utterances.

I DO believe they spun the Lamont thing in a way to fit perfectly with the plot's being made public.

I DO believe they have no particular interest in whether or not this thing ever goes so far as to nab all the bad guys. For them, the good that they could wring from it (for them) has been wrung.

I DO believe these people - these political terrorists that we suffer under as our 'government' - would take advantage of their mother's breast cancer if it stood to help them gain and retain ever more power.

3. Nah, I don't think so ....
.... earlier today I heard that one or several of the targets gave the Brits the slip. The implication of that is that they were ready to roll. That alone coujld be a good casue the bust the rest when they did.

11. you know .... the very saddest thing for me ......
.... is that I can no longer trust one fucking word that comes from the official mouths of my government.

I was always a bit skeptical and a bit cynical, but overall, I kinda trusted them.

Now? No fucking way.

2. I take some comfort in your analysis
Thanks -- don't know what else to say. I appreciated Keith Olbermann's take on it as well.

It's been a sickening display all around, on the part of the Bush admin. Sadly, their behavior over the past 6 years has bred an astonishing level of cynicism. Yeah, I believe bad guys would do that. I just don't trust anything that Bushco says, and that's no way to run a country.

4. On KO tonight they said something about the plot
was only at the beginning stage and the alledged terrorists were only checking on airline schedules.....go figure....I don't think we will ever know much as it will be "classified."

I was up late last night and saw the reports around 1:00 am PCT. They were reporting that 20 planes were part of the plot....than a little later 6 planes.......than this morning it was 10 planes......something doesn't smell right!!

7. Those detail discrepancies don't particularly trouble me ......
... the officials are not officially saying anything official. And may never. The rporting is the shoeleather guys digging what can be dug ... and early on, that's often close, but technically wrong.

12. I agree with you, first reports are horribly inaccurate
especially faux news trying to get the jump on it!

I guess my point is that if in fact they knew soooo much about this plot, wouldn't they also know how may planes were involved. They also said that this was an 8 month investigation and that Blair was briefing Dunce late last night.

Today it's soooo different, they are trying to make it look like Dunce actually gets credit for foiling the plot.

It's all such a bunch of crap...gee do you think now we will go after Osama-bin-missing!!

Geez, I feel soooo much safer. I think Bin-laden did this to try to scare people and keep the repugs in power, so that they can continue their dangerous course and get us all killed!!!

6. The more details that come out about this escapade, the more it
is starting to smell like a set up and flim flam job. Just like the last two - the one in Canada and the one in Florida.

I see a pattern emerging here and I see our intelligence agencies setting up people who can be easily swayed.

If religious fundamentalists can brainwash someone into killing themselves, why can't an intelligence agency do the same thing? And they get rewarded for doing it. I see a vicious cycle emerging here.

9. i don't believe nuthin ...
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 09:56 PM by welshTerrier2
it seems to me there is no way, none, for anyone to know anything about anything ... when the data are polluted, all that's left is speculation ...

so that would move me to a somewhat neutral position on anything we're told ... i sure don't trust bush; i sure don't trust the corporate-controlled media ...

and then i move to an evaluation of who is helped and who is hurt by the reported events ... helped? the all fear all the time party; hurt? the neocon opposition ...

hence, i am very, very skeptical about anything we are ever told ... absent more credible sources, i'm predisposed to go with conspiracy theories on almost anything ... am i casting my hat in with some pretty wacky kooks? yup ... just seems like a better choice than the alternative ...

when you're up against a polished propaganda machine, QUESTION EVERYTHING!

added on edit:

From War Games:
The president's ready for a counterstrike. That's what we're recommending he do.
It's a bluff, John. Call it off.
No, it's not a bluff. It's real.
Hello, General Beringer? Stephen Falken.
Mr Falken, you picked a hell of a day for a visit.
General, what you see on these screens up here is a fantasy. A computer-enhanced hallucination. Those blips are not real missiles. They're phantoms.
There's nothing to indicate a simulation. Everything's working perfectly.

13. I know you better than that ......
... I know you to be one who questions everything. And I commend you for that.

I also know you think there really are bad guys out there. We diverge on this specific issue in our reactions. Yours remains logical. Again I commend you.

Me? I'm goin' on inuition and 'gut' in my OP. In a very broad, overall sense, it 'feels' true. I completely distrust the media or the government to tell us the whole truth.

14. you do know me better than that ...
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 10:34 AM by welshTerrier2
there are definitely bad guys out there ...

i offer the following NOT because it proves a damned thing ... as i said, nobody knows nothin ... but i write it here because it offers one of a million plausible explanations ... and regardless of our intuitions and our guts, which are as good a barometer here as anything else, still, we cannot dismiss the reasoning ... we can be totally skeptical but we can't dismiss it ...

Scene: C-Span, this morning, Brian Lamb

Lamb asked a caller who had just said she did not believe any of the news reports about the latest "terrorist" incident why she thought more than a hundred MI5 agents in Great Britain would go through all these "lies" just to help george bush ...

to be honest, i got so absorbed in my own thoughts, i didn't hear her response ... i hate it when that happens ...

so i concocted the following script to respond to Lamb's question ...

imagine rove and bush sitting around trying to figure out what to do about the November elections ... push fear and terror ... what does anyone think they'll come up with?? rove is a one trick pony with no second act ... "cut and run", soft on defense and fear, fear, fear ... gotta remind Americans about the war on terror ... well, nothing new there ...

so they cook up a "mock drill" in England ... they get a bunch or two of "profile fitters" and hire them to conduct a little "trial run" ... weren't there mock terrorism drills scheduled for 9/11? plausible so far? i mean, it would be pretty crazy not to "test the system", wouldn't it?

so they hire a bunch of Middle Eastern guys with funny names and buy them all airline tickets to the US ... for those of us who believe bin Laden is a "US asset", this isn't far fetched at all ... but even if you don't believe the bin Laden thing, hiring "profiles" to test the system seems more than reasonable to me ...

but, of course, the real objective is NOT testing the system at all ... the real objective is fear, fear, and more fear ... so, the boys head for the airport ... now, of course, they want as many unknowing MI5 agents to "catch the bad guys" as possible ... that's the point - MI5 was not tipped off that this was only a drill ... they did their jobs perfectly and became actors in a script they weren't even aware of ... oh, and one little detail ... just to make sure the "test" resulted in capture and lots of media coverage, bush and rove couldn't take any chances the "bad guys" wouldn't be caught ... so they stuck an agent in there to "tip off" the authorities ... no chance of failure now ...

the result, if all this nonsense is true, is exactly as reported ... a bunch of "fit the profile" bad guys got caught ... there's all sorts of evidence, manufactured of course, about exactly what their plans were ... fear, fear and more fear ... and the PR benefits for bush and rove? just the way they like it ...

isn't that a nice story?

US policy is building hatred, deep hatred, for the US all over the world ... it is not at all unrealistic to expect, especially from the ME, terrorist cells to plot against the US ... could yesterday's events be as reported? of course they could be ... could they be as told by my cute little story? well, to be honest, i followed almost none of the coverage ... perhaps my tall tale is not consistent with what was reported ... but again, i really have to say that nobody knows nuthin ... we just don't and with this administration, and its love for propaganda and manipulation, and with a complicit media, anything is possible ... we just can't know nuthin ...

breast cancer to gain or retain power, shit, if their mother's breasts weren't so old, saggy and wrinkled they'd sell pictures of them on the Internet and claim the money was "campaign contributions."

Regarding your other assertions, I think this may be another case of entrapment like what happened in South Florida. What are the chances of an outsider actually being able to infiltrate a real terrorist cell? Remember that the official story of 9/11 is that the guys supplying the muscle were not told they were going to die that day. What are the chances that all these people were in on these supposed bombings and one of them blabbed to an informant? I don't know what to believe but disbelieving our government seems to be a safe bet these days.
