Lieberman's reward.
Lieberman running as an independent will divide the Democratic vote in November.

The Republician candidate will win.

Lieberman will then be appointed Secretary of Defense. Thus his reward.

You fill in the blanks.

1. Stop allowing the MSM/Repugs to DEFINE the election!
It is NOT certain that Lamont will lose. The logic from the media is that Joe running Indie will split the vote. That is not necessarily true. Let's look at the facts:

1. Most Dems, including the Democratic establishment will dissuade LIEberman from running;

2. The Dem machine understands how crucial it is to retain this seat; they will pull all resources and campaigning power into the Lamont machine. I don't think Joe can pull it off unless he accepts Repug help, which I'm certain he will.

3. CT voters proved last night that they are more politically savvy than your average Am. voter. Look, this is NOT Georgia; this is CT. There's no way in hell that Dems will allow this seat to go Repug. They will rally behind the Dem candidate.

4. Although I do believe that some Joe Faithfuls will remain loyal to him, they already voted in last night's election. I think Joe's already getting the voters he needs.

5. Finally, those voters who weren't necessarily convinced that Lamont would win and therefore voted for Joe will rethink their position now that we have a Dem. They know it's crucial for the Dem to win this thing.

I think the MSM and Repug's allow fear to cloud your judgement. I think Lamont can win.

3. I think more statements like
Lieberman just made will sink his chances faster than the Titanic went down.

"No, I don't think it's selfish to run as an independent and try to keep MY seat". That kind of arrogance will have Repubs voting for Lamont.

4. My concern is based in "rove-arian" fear. I am from Ohio where strange
things happen. So the shit I am full with, is real. I thought about the possible scernio absent any poll data from CT.

Anything is possible, but I guess what you really ment to say, it is not possible.

5. Unless something's changed, the repub doesn't win under ANY scenario.
Here's what I think:

Holy Joe wants to be Secretary of Defense for whatever reason - to better defend Israel? I dunno. But it's pretty well accepted as fact that Joementum has a hardon for Rummy's chair something fierce.

Now why on earth would The Dubster and his crime syndicate even consider offering that post to someone who isn't part of their cabal?

Connecticut has a Republican governor (albeit an apparently pretty moderate one). If Joe is appointed SecDef after winning another 6-year term, he will vacate the seat and, I believe, that republican governor will get to name a replacement senator. We've seen how well moderate republicans have been able to stand up against the wishes of the Emperor - I can imagine quite a bit of pressure brought to bear to name another neocon asshole to fill that seat. And, of course, decreasing the odds of the Dems regaining control of the senate, insulating the Syndicate from meaningful investigation and oversight.

IMHO, of course.

6. If Lieberman accepts Rethug help for the Nov. election, that's handing
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 06:44 AM by lulu in NC
the Dems a very large stick to beat him with throughout the campaign. What's unknown is how many Rethug voters would cross party lines to vote for Lieberman instead of their own candidate.

On edit: I have to agree with Knave Rupe (above)- who says Rummy's leaving? He IS a cornerstone of Bushco, after all. It's likely that HoJo will be treated as a used kleenex by Bushco.

11. Clarification:
What I was saying is that the ONLY way Joe could get to replace Rummy would be if he wins the General election and then vacates his Senate seat so that the Repub governor could appoint a Republican to fill his Senate seat. Any chance to subvert Democracy, dontcha know...

Otherwise, the Administration has no use for Joe - Francis the Talking Mule would be nemed SecDef before an out-of-work Joe Lieberman.

THAT, I think, is why Joe needs to be re-elected so badly. THAT is why he would leave the comforting embrace of the DLC and run as an independent. Because otherwise, he'll never again be the recipient of those glorious kisses from the Dub-meister.

7. Even with a split vote, the Repug doesn't have a chance.
It'll either be JOe or Lamont. My monies on Lamont.

9. The Repug won't drop out...
Isn't it too late for that to happen?

If it does happen, then my guess is that LIEberman supporters stick with him. Some Repugs will go to Joe; however, it will galvanize the Dem support for Lamont. My guess is that it'll be just like last night. Repug faithful will stay at home.
