Filthy Swiftboaters next stop? ....John Murtha's hometown...
This is being discussed @ Gen/Discussion, but it's so outrageous it probably needs to be here as well.

...Vets set sights on Murtha

By SANDRA K. REABUCK
The Tribune-Democrat

The “Swift Boat” veterans who grabbed national headlines in 2004 when they attacked John Kerry in his failed presidential bid now are turning their sights to Johnstown.

Their target is U.S. Rep. John Murtha, a critic of the Iraq war and a de facto spokesman on the subject for the national Democratic Party.

Armed as a new group – Veterans for the Truth – they’re bringing their campaign to “Redeploy John Murtha From Congress” to his backyard.

I wonder how many fat ass, weathy, white, Republican Chickenhawks send them money to assist in their swiftboating efforts?? I have a feeling it's a LOT!.

I also don't think Murtha will stand back and allow this disgusting group try and trash his reputation.

1. Unlike Kerry, John Murtha doesn't look like a man who won't fight back
and not this whimpy 'wait & see' stuff.

The district is overwhelmingly democratic built - have fun

2. Kerry did fight back.
Go to the web site: http://patriotproject.com/

And see what the Democrats have learned. (And it would have been nice to have had the support of other Dems in '04. Just as it would be nice now. I think there is just something in the water for some Dems that makes it easier to lace every pronoucement with snark instead of asking for unity to fight a common enemy. Too bad, makes it harder to fight.)

5. You have it wrong, Kerry did fight back. Please don't be a conveyor
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 02:41 PM by wisteria
for Repub and media lies. I don't know where you were during the election, but I saw almost immediate attempts to fight back. First in early spring when it was dealt with and them again in August when the media decided to help Bush win.

I repeat, Kerry did fight back.
Now, I also think it is unfair of you to attack him when he has been one of the few Dem's that has backed Murtha and has spoken about Murtha being Swift boated.

Did the third party Democrat-underminers on this site get to you on this one?

Good thing Casey has such a good lead on Santorum that he can probably still win, despite a few weak-kneed democrats drinking the democrat-hating left wing koolaid.

8. Yes, he did fight back - but he delayed it
he should have countered sooner and harder but instead took the moral high-road

11. ???
May 4, 2004 - The Swift Liars, beginning their lies by calling themselves "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth", went public at a news conference organized by Merrie Spaeth at the National Press Club. (1)

May 4, 2004 - "The Kerry campaign held a press conference directly after the "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" event...The campaign provided an information package which raised significant questions about 'Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.' " (3)

May 4, 2004 - Aug. 5, 2004 - No public activity by Swift Liars

.....

Aug. 5, 2004 - The Swift Liars' first television ad began airing a one-minute television spot in three states. (7)

Aug. 5, 2004 - "the General Counsels to the DNC and the Kerry-Edwards 2004 campaign faxed a letter to station managers at the relevant stations stating that the ad is 'an inflammatory, outrageous lie" and requesting that they "act immediately to prevent broadcast of this advertisement and deny any future sale of time. " ' " (4)

Aug. 10, 2004 - Democracy 21, The Campaign Legal Center and The Center for Responsive Politics filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) charging that the Swift Liars were illegally raising and spending soft money on ads to influence the 2004 presidential elections. (4)

Aug. 17, 2004 - the campaign held a press conference at which Gen. Wesley Clark (ret.), Adm. Stansfield Turner (ret.), and several swift boat veterans rebutted the charges. (4)

Aug. 19, 2004 - the Kerry-Edwards campaign announced its own ad "Rassmann." (4)

After the initial round with the Liars appeared to be won - with the Liars getting hardly any attention - then when round 2 came they took all of 2 weeks to get a rebuttal TV spot produced, scheduled and aired? That doesn't seem like a lot of time in political TV world. Meanwhile they put the stations on notice immediately, filed an FEC complaint, and held a press conference.

Don't know what else they could have done in that time frame. Or are you merely criticizing the Rassman ad as not taking the right approach?

12. MH1...
Regarding August 5: Aug. " ' " (4)

Do you know if the media ignored this request and continued airing the swiftboat ads? I'm assuming they did, but if a complaint was filed.. I wonder what became of it?

15. There is also the Aug 19 Kerry speech attacking the swifts/Bush campaign
in front of the Firefighters Convention, but no broadcast media showed it, and few even reported it happened.

Gee - could that have been on purpose?

14. That's incorrect, Lynne - media made it appear like that, but it didn't
actually come down like that. Check out the research forum and the book Lapdogs by Eric Boehlert.

3. It took 3 months, but the Swift Liars were exposed by Ted Koppel.
So why is ANYONE giving them the time of day?

Why should ANY journalist pay attention to them, when they KNOW that everything that comes out of their mouths will be lies?

17. After Koppel did his report exposing their lies, the rest of the media
refused to mention what Nightline discovered. They ignored every aspect of Koppel's report.

They want to replace a honored veteran who has served his country and his constituents with dignity with the wife of a war profiteer.

How patriotic. :sarcasm:

13. Anyone remember this?
Bush adviser quits after appearing in swift boat ad

-snip-

A Bush campaign statement said it did not know that retired Air Force Col. Ken Cordier had appeared in an ad by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

-snip-

Kerry's camp calls it a front for the Bush campaign and has urged the Federal Election Commission to cite the group, the Bush campaign and the Republican National Committee for violating federal election laws.
