President Bush Endorses Capito As a Rubberstamp for His Failed Policies

Washington, DC - President Bush will be in West Virginia today at a closed
press fundraiser to reward Rep. Shelly Moore Capito for rubberstamping his
failed leadership and misplaced priorities. Rep. Capito is the latest in a long
list of GOP candidates who are content with accepting President Bush's money as
long as they don't have to be seen in public with him. Rep. Capito has endorsed
the President's agenda, but she apparently doesn't want the people of West
Virginia to see the President endorse her. Rep. Capito has tried to hide the
fact that she continues to cozy up to President Bush but the record shows that
Rep. Capito is a loyal rubberstamp who has voted with the President 80 percent
of the time.

From Pennsylvania to Virginia to Maryland to Colorado and West Virginia,
Republican candidates continue to find excuses to avoid the President or appear
under the cover of darkness. With President Bush's 37 percent approval rate in
West Virginia, it's no wonder that Rep. Capito doesn't want to appear in public
with the President.

"West Virginians want strong leaders who will take a stand against the Bush
Administration's incompetent leadership on national security, immigration, the
Iraq war and the economy," said Democratic National Committee spokesperson
Amaya Smith. "Instead of working for the interests of West Virginians, Rep.
Shelly Moore Capito has consistently put her Party's interests ahead of the
American people by rubberstamping the Bush Administration's failed policies.
Democrats like Mike Callaghan are offering a bold agenda of change for the
people of West Virginia which focuses on America's real priorities and puts
working families first."

1. Callaghan has a good chance to beat her.
But he sure needs some money.
