FEMA changes mind - reporters can now talk to trailor park people

FEMA OKs media access to residents

FEMA announced Tuesday that it reversed a policy restricting media access to its trailer parks and received cautious praise from Louisiana congressmen and a national journalism organization.

“We’re responding to your criticism,” James Stark, director of FEMA’s Louisiana Transitional Recovery Office told editors and staff members of The Advocate during a telephone conference between FEMA representatives and the newspaper.

Over the past 10 days, The Advocate published two stories and an editorial about FEMA’s policy restricting media access to its trailer parks. The articles prompted widespread reaction andprompted the Federal Emergency Management Agency to review and change its policy.

“You pointed out some very good points that we shouldn’t be trying to muzzle the press,” Stark said Tuesday of why the policy was changed.

2. Rep. Melancon: “I think I’ll have to see it first before I believe it"
U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon, D-Napoleonville, who condemned FEMA’s restrictive policy Monday, was cautiously optimistic Tuesday when he was told about the new policy by a reporter.

“When political pressure starts building, they immediately say they are going to change things and make them better,” Melancon said.

“I just hope they’re being honest with you,” Melancon added. “I think I’ll have to see it first before I believe it.”

4. why the hell was this even a policy in the first place? on WHAT grounds
would they even begin to attemtp to justify such a police-state policy in the country where "they hate us for our freedoms"

note to terrorists and jihadists--you don't have to hate us anymore, we have no freedoms left.
