13. No its not. It's DLC credenzaware on vapor DVD.
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 09:26 PM by Pithy Cherub
It's a product launch to an audience that doesn't care what they say. In all seriousness, for the DLC's message to resonate it has to reach the tipping point for information distibution. That is the Internet(s). The New Coke DLC is strictly an oldline construct without any ability to repeat the message (especially in the blogosphere) which is a leading communications tool for Democrats. So in summation:

Last Year LOL:rofl: & :boring:
This year DOA:boring: &

4. I sort of thought MOST Americans Dream of ending the Iraq Occupation
and that little gem isn't part of how the DLC sees the American Dream.

5. I have no problem with this.
As long as they shut the f*** up about "liberals". Then, they can run their campaigns the way they want. In some places (IN, NE, UT, TX, WY, ID, etc.) the DLC plays well. Let 'em run all they want. Dems are the non-ideological big tent.

Just stop criticizing the liberal core of the party and I'll be fine with them.

6. Lube Up That Fist
The DLC is for the American Dream like Bush is for Clear Skies. The DLCers want nothing more than to move American jobs overseas ASAP (e.g., NAFTA, free trade with China...) so their political patrons can make a few extra shekels. That does wonders for the American Dream.

Anyone who falls for the DLC's claim to want to "level the playing field for the little guy" is a fool.

14. First of All - It's A Lie
American Dream Harder Than Ever to Reach

A new report by the Center for American Progress looks at economic mobility in the United States, and finds that children's potential for success in this country is very closely tied to the financial status of their parents. In particular, children from low-income families have only a 1 percent chance of reaching the top 5 percent of the income distribution in their lifetime, while children of the rich have a 22 percent chance of doing so.

Other key findings:

# African-American children who are born in the bottom quartile are nearly twice as likely to remain there as white children whose parents had identical incomes, and are four times less likely to attain the top quartile.

# The difference in mobility for blacks and whites persists even after controlling for a host of parental background factors, children’s education and health, as well as whether the household was female-headed or receiving public assistance.

# By international standards, the United States has an unusually low level of intergenerational mobility: mobility in the United States is lower than in France, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Finland, Norway and Denmark. Only the United Kingdom had a lower rate of mobility than the United States.

The study also examines economic trends over the past five years, and finds that despite strong GDP growth in 2003-2004, median household income hasn't moved up any faster than it did during the recession of 1990-91. And working longer hours no longer increases one’s chance for upward mobility: In 2003-04, families whose adult members worked 40 or more hours per week for two consecutive years were less upwardly mobile than in the early and late nineties.

24. your last paragraph -
which takes economic data from the last 5 years - who was president then?

Bush.

and who was president in the early and late nineties, when the group being measured was more upwardly mobile?

Clinton.

So why is this a lie?

Why is it a lie to hold out hope to people that we could go back to a time when there was more upward mobility than there is now?

15. The slogan sounds like a bunch of well-to-do guys who cannot
hear us moaning down here. American Dream is a phrase that just about leaves me ill. The DLC is out of touch with those of us in the party who are just hanging on by our teeth. They will have to do better than that.

"The reason they call it the American Dream is because you have to be asleep to believe it." -George Carlin.

And you have to be asleep
if you are gonna follow the DLC
like sheep, jumping over a fence
made up with their kind of philosophical
rubbish heap.

Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 09:16 AM by Totally Committed
The DLC, under ANY slogan, needs to be resisted, their candidates shunned, and their values jettisoned from our frame of reference.

Sounds good, but did you actually READ the proposal???? They have shaved the English language to within an inch of its life in an attempt to present a hopeful-SOUNDING message. Read it carefully... take the language word by word, and consider meanings that you MIGHT not think they mean, and be sure they do!

Here's a thread with the ENTIRE proposal:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2739776&mesg_id=2739776

The author asks for CONSTRUCTIVE criticism only, so that leaves me out. What is oozing from every pore in my body wouldn't be constructive in any way for a piece of disingenuous, double faced, cynical, corporate-friendly bullsh*t like that.

They are clever, but we must be cleverer.

TC
