DNC: Leaks Still "Roving" Around The White House.
http://www.democrats.org/a/2006/07/leaks_still_rov.php

In his column today, Robert Novak finally admitted that Karl Rove was a confirming source for his story that revealed the identity of a covert CIA operative during a time of war. Specifically, Novak wrote that Rove talked to him about the agent's identity by "confirming his primary source's information." This new development contradicts previous White House assertions that Bush's staff was not involved in the leaking of the classified information and breaks the President's promise to fire anyone found to have taken part in the leak.

Also, while these new revelations make clear that one of President Bush's top aides was involved in leaking classified information, there are still questions about what else Rove revealed to Novak. Novak noted that, "I have revealed Rove's name because his attorney has divulged the substance of our conversation, though in a form different from my recollection." The Federal investigation into the leaking of a covert CIA agent's identity during a time of war has also led to the indictment of Vice President Cheney's former chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, on charges of obstruction of justice, perjury and making false statements.

"It is unthinkable that President Bush has not fired Karl Rove for leaking classified information during a time of war," said Democratic National Committee Press Secretary Stacie Paxton. "This Administration is once again guilty of putting party ahead of country for political gain. The President told the American people that he would fire anyone in his Administration involved in the leaking information regarding Valerie Plame's identity, yet Karl Rove remains on the job.

"It is shameful that Rove is publicly on the attack when he has not been truthful about his role in this scandal, and it's hard to take seriously the President's criticism of leaks when his own staff has engaged in politically-motivated disclosures of classified information during a time of war. Democrats remain committed to putting the interests of the American people and ethical government ahead of nasty, partisan politics."

1. Why not use the words "lie" and "liar"?
Because that's what's going on here - Rove, Bush and everyone else involved have lied about the circumstances since the beginning. They are liars. Bush lied to the American people when he said he'd fire whoever was responsible for the leak (knowing who it was when he said it).

4. You don't have to say liar to make your point.
Maybe more can come to the thread now and make light of a very good very clear statement on this.

Never enough. No wonder so many just throw their hands up and don't bother.

5. It is a good statement -
I didn't say it wasn't. But sometimes just getting to the point and being blunt is what people need to hear.

6. I thought it was clever.
But then what do I know.

I thought it was a huge insult to Rove, just like Dean's press release on Rove yesterday which got ignored here.

I guess I don't think you have to use the word liar to make a powerful point.

But never mind. We have had Democrats speaking out often, but often when they do they get ignored or have other Dems say they don't speak for them. And other Dems on the other side say they don't speak out enough.

I guess I just get tired of all the infighting.

8. Here's where I was coming from.
I read the statement and agree it was well-written and yes, even clever. However, in order to get noticed by the press and then in turn the people - maybe it should be a bit more sensational. We do have Democrats speaking out often; but what they say doesn't warrant a 30 second spot on CNN because it too 'boring'. I don't think we should adopt Republican tactics, but sometimes I think we are too nice. No infighting here - just thinking aloud and making an observation. :hi:

9. This interview had soundbytes all over the place.
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/161

I did not see one single blogger mention it or put up the video. One person did because of the comments about Lamont and Lieberman, spazeboy put it up as a CT blogger.

We want them to speak out, we ignore them when they do. This interview, other events by our Dems should have been plastered all over Kos and MyDD and other blogs. Nothing at all.

We do not stand up for our own.

10. Point taken.
It is a huge problem when the blogosphere (specifically liberal/progressive) ignores Dems. Personally, I don't post in GD Politics much, so I wasn't aware how active you are in keeping track. Thank you.

2. some people would rather be polite and lose than tell the truth -
the OP says

"It is shameful that Rove is publicly on the attack..." On the attack. that's why rove wins and the dems lose.

offense is the best defense, dems, get it will ya?

3. Never satisfied.
Some Dems are never satisfied.

When I posted this, I was surprised to see that it was being put down because it did not say liar and was not enough.

Some Dems try, some try to be fairly polite, and some get demolished when they speak out clearly and then try other ways.

I don't blame any of them if they just quit fighting. No one here is ever satisfied.

I will not delete it, so everyone just have a go at putting down the DNC statement.

7. Here's an example of what get's ignored here.
Edited on Wed Jul-12-06 04:25 PM by madfloridian
Dean called Rove out yesterday loud and clear. Not one single blog on the left even mentioned it. Not one. None.

I posted it here, it got 5 comments, 2 were mine.

Yet then people say we don't speak out. Well, where are our bloggers on the left when our Dems DO speak out?

No one cared about this release. This was the only place Dean's comments about the Neoconservatives having Bush in their grasp were even mentioned. It was on CNN and yet no one paid attention. I saw Kucinich on CNN speaking clearly, I did not see it mentioned here. Why?

11. Maybe this gets the sealed indictment released?
Could Novak revealing that Rove leaked Plame to him shame Fitz into releasing the (sealed) indictment that truthout reported on May 12?

12. Yeah but what about BBV??????????
haha Just kiddin' MF.

I think it's great that the DNC issued this statement. Sadly the blogosphere and corporate media are too busy with other things.....

:toast: Rock on MF. Thanks for keeping us posted on the DNC. I think Dean and his Lieutenants are doing a good job and marvel at how few know about it, even here on DU.

13. Thanks, Julie.
It is true I fear. Part of it seems to be intentional, like not making a big deal of the things they are doing. I can see some of that under the radar stuff right now....probably is good.

But most of it is right there at the website, or in his interviews. I think our left leaning blogs and forums do not support our party over all. They are pretty good at supporting individual candidates, and that is important, too.

But several of our Democrats made important vital statements this week, and we either pay no attention or just don't know.

I was just talking to some county party leaders, and we get so discouraged here. The Republicans own it all, and they will for years. But the worst part is that our state leaders are not ready for change, and they make it clear. I am glad they are rebuilding like they are, but they mute too many voices.

One of them implied someone asking questions of them was typical DFA. Ooh, that made many angry.

Keep up the good work you do.
