Howard Dean is getting standing ovations from evangelicals?!

-------------------------------------------

WASHINGTON - A convention of evangelical Christians gave standing ovations this week to Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean and Sens. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Barack Obama, D-Ill.

And that's news, because pro-choice, pro-gay rights Democrats are not usually favorites of evangelicals. But that could be changing as the Democratic Party tries to reconnect with so-called values voters,
and some evangelical leaders try to extend religious debates beyond same-sex marriage and abortion.

''It's been terribly politicized and polarized. Moral values can't be narrowed to those two,'' said the Rev. Jim Wallis, leader of the Sojourners. His ''progressive evangelical'' group organized a three-day conference in Washington this week to lobby politicians on behalf of the poor.

Six hundred clergy and their followers attended workshops, listened to speeches and visited their congressional representatives.

--------------------------------------------

The DNC confirmed that this was part of a larger program to reach out to religious voters.

Good going Howard Dean!

2. Yes, but...
it's the Sojourners, who are liberal evangelical Christians, so that was to be expected.

3. Sojouners organized, but was not the only presence.
There were various "evangelicals" in attendance. And, I "hell" like the headline!

4. True evangelicals and Christians *should* embrace the Democratic Party...
...since we are the party of tolerance, understanding, accepting of free will and choice, and caring for those "least among us" with our socially sensitive programs unlike the Republican Party that want to preach intolerance, prejudice, in-acceptance of any debate, and uncaring of the "least among us" unless they can feel good about handing down the crumbs with as many witnesses in attendance of this "charity".

Finally, finally educated Christians and Evangelicals are "seeing the light"!

6. I heard about this on tom joyner yesterday.....
Al Sharpton said something to the effect "It's time for the Christian "Right" to meet the "Right" Christians".

I, for one, do believe that we must reach out to everyone, including Evangelicals; however, I do not believe that the Church should try to run the State.
