The cornerstone of a working democracy is a citizenry that votes. In 2006, the voters will have a choice like none other in their lifetimes. After everything that has happened in the last few years, if the people do not turn out to vote, it does not bode well for our nation.
Because if the people cannot turn out to vote in times such as these, why would we expect to turn out to vote when matters get worse? Yes, a lesson of life, they can always get worse.
But, 2006 will be a barometer of the people's connection to the well-being of their nation. If they are indifferent or just don't give a damn about it, then the future of our nation does not look good from my perspective. We, the people, are the government and if we decline to participate, we cannot expect it to operate efficiently or fairly. Government is only bad if you are bad.
