wake up progressives!! support the flag-burning amendment
Edited on Tue Jun-27-06 10:43 AM by welshTerrier2
According to the American Flag institute (AFI), flag burnings are on the rise ... last year alone saw a 100% increase from 2 burnings a year to a record 4 burnings ...

and yet progressives continue to whine about this as a drop in the bucket ...

if these namby-pamby America haters stopped to consider the consequences of flag burning even for a minute, they couldn't possibly deny the tragic, global consequences of flag burning ...

every flag that is burned sends toxic plumes of carbon dioxide skyward ... these plumes eventually aggregate in the earth's ozone layer ... at the current rate of increase in flag burnings, carbon dioxide build-up from these burnings could, over roughly the next 22 million years, come to represent as much as 1% of CO2 build-up ...

the impact of all this?

the earth's food supply could be wiped out!

coastal cities? wiped out!

life on the planet? you got it - wiped out!

are you really going to just allow all that to happen just so some maladjusted free speecher can burn a flag??

i say NO! it's time for progressives to fully recognize the dangers that flag burnings can cause ...

3. thanks, TC ...
what's really interesting about this is that i'm starting to get the feel that the American people are not so easily duped by this nonsense anymore ...

in spite of the media and republican spin, i'm hearing a whole lot of "don't they have more important things to do?" ...

once their credibility is gone and things like this are seen for what they really are, their whole game collapses ... amendments like these are high-stakes poker and they stand to gain virtually nothing even if they succeed ...

4. If it's burning, is it okay to piss on it?
These are the kinds of deep questions raised by such an idiotic amendment.

5. Great satire, but that number - 4 - is troubling
I could find no reference to any flag being burned in protest in the US in the past year. Nor could I find any reference to one being burned in protest in the US in years going back to the 70s, although I know the farther back you go the less complete the record is likely to be.

Oral Snatch this morning claimed 130 have been burned in protest in the past 10 years and he, too, was unwilling to come up with dates or places.

I suspect Oral's number includes all flags burned in protest overseas, something that would continue no matter how many pious anti speech amendments the GOP manages to tack onto the 2006 ballot to encourage the pig ignorant to vote.

I'm just looking for information here. If you pulled that number out of your butt, I understand completely. Your post was satire, after all.

6. it's that stupid realtor
every year, a realtor in my town sticks an American flag on a little wooden pole at the end of everyone's driveway ...

she manages to slip a business card on the pole to make sure that we don't forget that America is really all about crass commercialism and not about the ideals on which the country was founded ...

the stupid flags end up all over the streets for the next several months ... i always pick up "my flag" and put it in the garage next to the lawn fertilizer and the slimy funnel i use to put oil in the lawn mower ...

last year, after building up a collection of four flags over the past few years, i decided to celebrate the bush years by wiping out the whole colony in one towering inferno ... i immediately called the American Flag Institute so they could update their records ... they told me this was the first reported incident they had had in years ...

so, i've opted to put the number at 4 ...

btw, in case you're wondering, very little of anything in this thread is true ... well, except the part about the realtor ...
