Getting Pass the Bush Visit to Iraq Hype
Some in the media are once again claiming that this trip to Iraq like the Thanksgiving trip to Iraq shows how brave Bush is. This is just hype. Bush was not in any real danger in flying to Iraq. In 2003 when Bush made his first trip to Iraq some security/intelligence officials pointed out that it was extremely unlikely that any person on the ground could hit Air Force One, especially if the plane is flying at night with the lights off. One intelligence person pointed out that AFO has multiple missle detection technologies. In addition to that AFO has the ability to send missle shot at the plane in the opposite direction. In dealing with the helicopter ride today, it was a six minute helicopter ride in the green zone. It is not like he ventured into the danger zone, he stayed in the green zone.

I not trying to completely bash Bush for going to Iraq; however, I do not like to idea of the media trying to pretend that he put his life in such great danger. It is nice that Bush went to Iraq. However, lets think about how many government officials have made either secret trips or open trips to Iraq. Now lets think about how many of them have been hurt. As far as I know none of those officials have even been injuried. This is only the second time Bush has gone to Iraq. On the other hand Tony Blair has been to Iraq a number of times. I just think it is not that big of a deal that Bush went to Iraq today.

3. Didn't work for Lyndon.
He made two visits too.

October 26, 1966 - President Johnson visits U.S. troops at Cam Ranh Bay. This is the first of two visits to Vietnam made during his presidency.

December 23, 1967 - Upon arrival at Cam Ranh Bay in Vietnam, President Johnson declares "...all the challenges have been met. The enemy is not beaten, but he knows that he has met his master in the field." This is the President's second and final trip to Vietnam during his presidency.
