Lieberman Ally Advises: Run As An Independent
Lieberman Ally Advises: Run As An Independent

June 13, 2006

By MARK PAZNIOKAS, Courant Staff Writer

A prominent ally of U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman urged Monday that Lieberman run for re-election as an independent and not trust his career to left-leaning Democratic primary voters in August.

John F. Droney Jr., a former Democratic state chairman who helped Lieberman unseat Republican Sen. Lowell P. Weicker Jr. in 1988, said Lieberman should make his case for re-election to all voters in November.

"I think to be terrorized through the summer by an extremely small group of the Democratic Party, much less the voting population, is total insanity for a person who is a three-term senator," Droney said.

1. Yeah, great advice--split the Democratic vote so the GOP dweeb cruises in
If Joementum doesn't cut it in the primary, he should go the fuck home. AND do the right thing, and throw his support to the victor.

How much was the GOP check to Droney, ya gotta wonder???

2. Times are achangin' Mr. Droney
A small group of professional entrenched Democrats, like yourself, made the Republican Syndicate possible. Not to worry, we'll fix the mess you helped to create.

3. Goes to show where Joemomentum stands in the political continuum
Lieberman is way to the right of Weiker, who was a decent and honorable man.

Droney and his cronies need to be turned out to pasture.

To all the "left-leaning Democratic primary voters in August", I say RIGHT ON!

8. I live in CT. I know the history. Weicker was elected in 1968,
when Tom Dodd ran as an independent (Chris Dodd's father). It spelled disaster for Democrats. This year I think enough democrats and independents will vote against the war. I live in Connecticut. I am a life long Democrat. I will vote for Lamont. and I will vote for the nominee of my party.

4. What kind of Party Chair advises a Dem candidate to leave the party and
run against the Dem Nominee? I mean what a loser.

5. Read this page
Okay, maybe it's just me, but well, read these letters to the editor. I want an objective reaction so I'll hold mine.

7. The Norwalk writer is obviously a Republican
"nothing about the war on terror". That language gave him away.

11. No, I didn't mean that
I will express the same concern though, there isn't a thing about national security or terrorism on his web site. He can't win in November that way.

But I was referring to the tone of the letters more than the content.

15. I'm sure it's his choice
If he doesn't choose to talk about national security or foreign policy, I'm sure that's by choice.

But those letters, did they not all sound just a bit like afternoon tea at the mansion?? I have never seen a more polite and mannered bunch of LTTE's. And the horror at the young girls smoking cigars!! Called them children I think, kind of funny. The whole bunch of them just hit me funny. Is this eastern elitism? Cuz I don't think we've got that breed west of the MS.

This morning on WSTC/WNLK here in Connecticut, Lieberman campaign manager Sean Smith made it official. He said this to news reporter Erik Campano,

Are we going to support Ned Lamont? Ah, no! (laughs)...

9. methinks that certain people's
lack of outrage of this showing of contempt for party loyalty is telling. Then again, Lieberman is not a liberal, and apparently only liberals must be loyal to the party.

10. Sounds good to me
I don't think that Lieberman's any Democrat. Members of the opposition party are supposed to fight against the party in power, not kiss their ass.

13. What a fucking cry-baby............
The one time he has a primary challenger, he wants to leave the party. I would think that it would reflect badly on him, am I off base with that?

14. this shit needs to be broadcast all over the state
cause most people aren't even aware. I guarantee that Joe's favorables and support will drop like a stone one it is widely known.

Most people understand juvenile and selfish acts and are turned off by them.

19. Why did you double-post this in LBN and GD-Politics? Against the rules
And, you have 3 votes for greatest in one thread, and 2 in the other. If you'd posted only once, that would be enough to put you on the greatest page.
