Kerry Ammendment Gets Nod From TrueMajority.org - Urging call to reps!
Senator John Kerry introduced an amendment to the Pentagon spending bill on Monday to withdraw U.S. combat troops from Iraq by year's end, but the Kerry bill has not received wide support from other Democrats who seem to be dragging their heels in supporting any unified plan for withdrawal. TrueMajority.org, however, has come out in support of the Kerry Amendment and issued this statement in an e-mail today:

From True Majority, this e-mail supporting Senator Kerry's amendment:

Dear XXXX,

Tell your representative to stand up in Congress and demand a plan for withdrawing American troops from Iraq.

After months of pressure from TrueMajority and a lot of other groups, Congress is really feeling the pressure to talk about Iraq. The House leadership had promised a debate to begin this week, but now it's become clear their real plan is to dance around the issue again. You have an opportunity to remind them that we want our leaders to face the war head-on.

John Kerry just introduced a surprise Senate amendment to get our soldiers out of Iraq, but the House is ducking the issue. Don't let them. When the House attempts its charade this week, insist that your representative speak out for a real Iraq withdrawal plan.

From Congress.org, mention of Kerry's amendment in their newsletter:

"Additionally, the Senate will vote on an amendment by Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) to withdraw all troops from Iraq before the end of the year. The House will vote on a resolution related to the war in Iraq as well. Share your views on the issue with Congress and President Bush."

1. Eh, who has time for that. We're busy beating our tits about Rove.
Besides didn't his vote for the IWR or something? And I don't like the words he's using because they're not EXACTLY the ones I would use...

(picks another nit)

Sorry. Not in a good mood. But thanks. I called my Senator this morning. I hope others will do the same.

3. And we can't forget the FLAG burning amendment from the RW.
::shakes head::

I understand being in a less than great mood. I've been in a really nasty mood lately.

Sometimes I just get plain sick of people. But then, I think of Senator Kerry and how he, if anyone, should feel that way with all the crap he gets flung at him. Yet he still fights for us, all of us, even the assholes.

6. Yeah, I hear you. It is only a "surprise" if you haven't been
paying attention. I expect ignorance from the general public who depend on the MSM to get their information, but you would think progressive organizations would be better informed. ::shrug:: At least they are giving him credit. Better LATE than never.

It is frustrating that it has been nearly a year since JK first proposed a plan to get our troops home. They would be home by now if the Administration had followed his plan. And now people are just starting to hear Kerry. Makes me want to pull my hair out. What does the senator have to do to get his message out, burn a flag? :sarcasm:

7. More than a year...it was part of the 2004 campaign.
A mostly forgotten part, it seems (on DU anyway), but Kerry had has part of his campaign platform, a 4 part plan that culminated in beginning to draw down our troops 6 months after he took office - which would have been in June 2005. But of course many "Democrats" and "anti-war" people are too busy complaining about his IWR vote to ever remember that if he'd been elected, Iraq would be a much different place today, and most if not all of our troops would be home.

9. That's true. I was just referring to the plan he came out with last year,
but you're right, Kerry was calling for a draw-down during the campaign. Such a waste.

Isn't it amazingly stupid how people bitch about that one vote (personally I think it's disingenuous) when they don't criticize Murtha for his vote? There are more than a few nut cases and wingers lurking in the blogosphere.

8. Unfortunately alot of people are going to be surprised by Kerry
BUT on a positive note, they are waking up and they are now listening.
And True Majority does reach out to alot of people that may not have been listening either.
Little by little, step by step, Kerry's message will get out. People are ready to listen.

10. The problem in 2004 was that there were a lot of lazy Democrats.
The ABB (anybody but Bush) voters didn't bother to get to know Kerry. They just voted for him because he wasn't Bush. That hurt Kerry's image because the MSM pretty much got carte blanch to paint Kerry in whatever negative stereotypes their Republican-owned corporations dictated.

Kerry's always been very charismatic and he's always been a great speaker. He's always spoken out on the same issues he's speaking out on now and his positions have been amazingly consistent for someone who's been in the Senate for 20 years.

Let them be surprised. Let them think he's changed. We know he hasn't, but people don't want to admit that they simply weren't paying attention. It's kinda funny, actually.
