John Gibson: Zarqawi killed during Yearly Kos to demoralize attendees?
You CAN'T make this stuff up, folks.

On the June 8 edition of Fox News' The Big Story, host John Gibson suggested that attendees at the "big convention" for the "far-left-wing Daily Kos" weblog -- at which he noted Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean and Sens. Harry Reid (D-NV) and John Kerry (D-MA) were scheduled to speak -- were "demoralized" by the death of Al Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Republican strategist Ed Rollins agreed, adding: "Well, they'll claim it's a conspiracy theory. That we knew their meeting was going on and that's why we did it (killed Zarqawi now)." Gibson replied: "Well, they are claiming that. They are claiming at this moment that they were saving Zarqawi to kill at an important moment."

As Media Matters For America has noted, MSNBC host Don Imus and CNN political analyst Bill Bennett have also suggested that liberals were saddened by Zarqawi's death.

From the June 8 edition of Fox News' The Big Story with John Gibson:

GIBSON: You know, we talked about it a minute ago before we went on the air. Out in Las Vegas, the far-left-wing Daily Kos is having its big convention. Every major democratic leader -- Howard Dean, Harry Reid, John Kerry -- is coming out to speak, and they have been defeated in Southern California, Bilbray won.

ROLLINS: Right.

GIBSON: Zarqawi was caught the day their convention opens. This is -- the left is demoralized by this.

ROLLINS: Well, they'll claim it's a conspiracy theory. That we knew their meeting was going on and that's why we did it.

GIBSON: Well, they are claiming that. They are claiming at this moment that they were saving Zarqawi to kill at an important moment.

ROLLINS: Well, you know, obviously, that's not true. And obviously, it makes them unhappy, so be it. It gives them something to talk about. The key thing here, though, is that it does show that our intelligence and our special services are working very well, and that's what I think is the most positive thing involved.

1. It makes me sick
They "quote" liberals by saying what they wish we had said, and the media quotes it as if we really said it.

It's hard to fight when they argue both sides, and the media just quotes them.

4. More Fox News twisted logic, fact-free and beyond insane.
ROLLINS: Well, they'll claim it's a conspiracy theory. That we knew their meeting was going on and that's why we did it.

GIBSON: Well, they are claiming that. They are claiming at this moment that they were saving Zarqawi to kill at an important moment.

First thing wrong here: Who is "they?"

Second thing: When Gibson says "Well, they are claiming that," it's in direct response to Rollins' statement 9"we knew their meeting was going on and that's why we did it"), and...to the best of my knowledge...NO ONE is claiming that Zarqawi's death was timed to align with Yearly Kos.

Except Gibson and Rollins. If they are "they," then we're getting somewhere.

6. Where is General Ripper
just when we need him most.

There was only one slice of ham available for my breakfast this morning. Obviously that means that something important happened. Anybody know what it is? Or do I have to research for myself?

8. The left is demoralized by this?
On what planet?

The left is not demoralized by the killing of Zarqawi. If anything, we think his death will further prove to the American public that this so-called "War on Terror" is ignorant in the way in which its being waged. Killing Zarqawi will do NOTHING to stop the terrorism and insurgency, from both inside and outside of Iraq, and will prove our point that we need to get out of there ASAP.

These Faux "News" idiots are so out-of-touch.

11. Exactly!
Here's what to say to repukes:

"So our troops took out a bit player. The violence will continue as before. Go ahead and shoot off your fireworks and dance with glee. But in reality, there's nothing to celebrate unless our troops are coming home."

12. An interesting angle on the "bit player" concept here...
Edited on Sun Jun-11-06 03:45 PM by Human Torch
A few weeks ago, when the news media couldn't play enough of that "blooper" tape of Zarqawi unable to fire his own gun without assistance, he was being portrayed as a "bit player."

Now that he's dead, it's all changed. He's a poster child for progress in Iraq and Bush's rationale for going there in the first place ("Zarqawi was al Quaeda, Zarqawi was in Iraq, that means al Quaeda was in Iraq, so Iraq was responsible for 9/11")...

That's trademark "spinning of the propaganda" from the Bush administration...just keep changing the story as you see fit. Keep showing those gold-framed dead photos of "The Beheader of Baghdad" and remind the 'murcan people, via Fox News, that they can RUN, but they can't HIDE. We'll SMOKE 'em out of their caves (or "safe houses").

Unless they're Osama. We'll have to get back to you on that.

9. They are trying to paint DU and others as theorists. When in fact
we get to the truth any way we can.

I say the DU should be more careful about what they allow to be denied. If 500 press accounts and blog accounts describe a cell of Jihadists being arrested in Canada..then that is the way it is. That is a fact.

If only one source comes out with a story that Fitz indicted someone..then we wait for multiple accounts on the blogs and in the press.

Discernment.

15. I hear what you're saying, but...
...that works in theory more often than in practice. Discernment should always be a cornerstone, but take an agitated world and stirred up passions and a rogue blogger (or even an accredited one with faulty sources), and it adds up to "reaction mode."

After six years of Bush, we're so ready for "something" that will let us know we're turning a corner that...despite an initial gut reaction that tells us to "wait"...we put our hopes and energy behind that "something."

Then it gets a little tense between the people who want to wait for confirmation and the people who are fed up with Bush and his nonsense, and that's the playing field we're on.

I'm the kind of person who waits. Through trial and error I've learned to step back, wait because that's what I've chosen to do, and let the conversation carry on without me. It makes my life a little more peaceful and my efforts a little more focused.

18. With the 9/11 conspiracy theories.. well other sites didn't allow for

that talk to continue. Because they suspected much of it was pot stirring by freepers.. trying hard to keep people confused.. from grieving and getting back to normal.

So talk of 9/11 "not happening" "a plane not going into the Pentagon" or whatever.. was banned.

It would be lovely to assume that there are not people out there who will lead others down a garden path because it suits their political agenda.. but those days are gone.

There is much open for discussion. Much gets reported by witnesses and those reports hit MSM & the blogs...and then they can be discussed. Like WMD, voter suppression, etc.

Only the obvious denial of facts verified by hundreds of news organizations and blogs should be stopped. Cause it stops the discussion. And it is hard to sit here in the forum and discuss the meaning or the policy that should take place.

14. This is sick - It would be nice if they read the Democrats statements
Kerry, who was never scheduled to go to the Kos thing, said:

“Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was a brutal terrorist and his death strikes a blow to al-Qaeda in Iraq. This ruthless thug who abused the true meaning of Islam was an intruder on Iraqi soil and it’s good news that he’s dead. Our troops did an incredible job hunting him down and destroying him, and all of America is proud of their skill and commitment.

“With the end of al-Zarqawi and the confirmation of the final vital cabinet ministries in Iraq’s new government, it’s another sign that it’s time for Iraqis to stand up for Iraq, bring the factions together, end the insurgency, and run their own country. Our troops have done their job in Iraq, and they’ve done it valiantly. It’s time to work with the new Iraqi government to bring our combat troops home by the end of this year.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The special forces operation to get Zarqawi was in fact the type of action against terrorists that Kerry spoke of in 2004 and in Oct 2005 gave as what the US forces should do while having the Iraqis doing the search and destroy and the policing.

His death makes it easier to withdraw, as Kerry proposed, and to let the Iraqis stand up.
