Democrats Want DeLay's Name on Ballot
Good PR (for us):

Democrats Want DeLay's Name on Ballot

The Texas Democratic Party won a temporary restraining order Thursday blocking the process that would name a replacement for Republican U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay on the November ballot.

State District Judge Darlene Byrne ordered Texas GOP Chairwoman Tina Benkiser not to convene party officials to decide on DeLay's replacement until after a June 22 court hearing.

Democrats are trying to keep DeLay's name on the ballot, which would also keep his legal problems in front of voters. DeLay leaves Congress on Friday.

State Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie said Democrats are trying to keep the GOP from creating a "sham vacancy" for the Republican nomination for the 22nd Congressional District.

1. Heh heh, I like this
I hope they force The Hamper to actually run in November. That was pretty dirty, the way he ran in the primary, so that the state GOP leaders, and not the voters, could pick who his replacement would be. And that's classic DeLay, the way he's keeping all those political donations from stupid Repukes, to use in his legal defense.

3. I like it when the Repukes start crapping on each other.
It shows what they're really made of. In the beginning, they're best friends, buddies until the end, until someone gets caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Then the rest of them don't recall meeting you. Later, once it's clear the damage has been done, the guilty party gets to keep the money as a parting gift.

They eat their own. Nice, Christians they are indeed.

2. It appears that under Texas Law they cannot replace a
candidate after the primary.

The Texas Election Code permits a candidate to withdraw. However, the Legislature attached a cost to withdraw after a primary. If a candidate withdraws after his party’s primary, the party cannot substitute another candidate for the withdrawing candidate.

6. Great find, thanks.
Could The Hamper and the rest of the Texas GOP be so stupid as to have missed this inconvenient point of law? This seems too good to be true! Could he actually be forced to run as the GOP candidate in November, when he would be certain to get the ass whuppin' of his life? Is he going to have to give back all those political contributions that he currently plans to keep for his legal defense? Would the Texas legislature try to change the law just for him to try to get him out of this spot? My head is spinning!
