If Fletcher case goes to trial, big names could participate
Associated Press
FRANKFORT, Ky. - If the misdemeanor charges against Gov. Ernie Fletcher make it to trial, the proceeding could bring in some big names to testify and turn into a headache for the state's Republican party.
Kentucky Republican Party chairman Darrell Brock is a former Fletcher aide who oversaw one of the agencies that participated in political vetting of job candidates. And U.S. U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis recommended a family friend whose name was cited in the governor's indictment.
While those and other officials might not have done anything wrong, they are among prominent Republicans whose names have been, in one way or another, dragged into the state hiring probe.
"The biggest risk you run for Republicans if this continues is that it could very well cover good news," said Scott Lasley, assistant political science professor at Western Kentucky University.
