"It took 6 years of GWB to realize that Gore is the real deal"
From AP:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060517/ap_on_el_ge/gore_running_again_2

"If he's the guy we see today, I think he'd be formidable," said Joe Trippi, a Democratic consultant who helped run Howard Dean's Internet-fueled presidential campaign in 2004.

"I think the real danger is if he were to run as an independent. If he did that, he would wreak havoc on the race in 2008," Trippi said. "He could say, 'I've been out of the system and we have to do it in a different way. I want to lead the way.'"

Kathleen Sullivan, chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, said Gore looks better each day Bush is president.

"For some people, it took six years of George Bush to wake up and realize that Al Gore was the real deal," Sullivan said.

as well as here. When his movie hits the mainstream it's a done deal...he's running.

4. I've known since he wrote Earth in the Balance back in, what, 1990,
that he was the real deal. He had to live in Clinton's shadow for 8 years and paid a bigger price after that (in losing 2004), but he IS the real deal.

5. You know, the media played up Gore's old "voting record", saying
that you could tell a person by their past accomplishments . . . as an insult to Gore.

And yet, the media let it slide that Bush would be an excellent person to manage the US economy . . . and ignoring the record of businesses that went bankrupt under him . . .

13. It's gotta be Gore!
Let's be completely clear about one thing: Gore has devoted his entire adult life to the Democratic Party. He is working hard to raise money for Dem candidates this year! If he runs again, it will be on the Democratic ticket, or it will be nothing at all. How can anyone believe that Al Gore would run as an independent, splitting the anti-Republican vote with the official Democratic candidate, and thereby helping the GOP continue their occupation of the White House?

Maybe some of us are disappointed with some of the Democrats in Congress. But then it's up to registered Democrats to select and support better candidates next time around. It's no reason for Al Gore to jump ship ...

14. I would be more than shocked
I don't think that Gore would do anything like run as in independent in a million years. Joe Trippi might have had a different reason for suggesting such a thing...like having people pay attention.

I think the most telling thing was in the roundtable on George Stephanpoulus' show last week (I think it was last week) when David, Cokie and George were all annointing Hillary until the end of the conversation when one of them said, "Unless Al Gore decides to run." And they all kind of nodded and made agreeing noises that that would be the ONLY person who could change the landscape. I don't know if I agree with that, but I certainly think he should have cred with both progressives and moderate Democrats, he's got experience and gravitas. And he's got the benefit of a nation's deepening regret about what's happened in the time he hasn't been president.

He can run all the footage his saying "The Republican tax cuts will only benefit the wealthiest 1%." and other predictions that have turned out exactly as he warned. His environmental concerns, which hurt him..they did..in some states can help him this time.

I hope Gore doesn't run as an independent. Independents lose. And they're often spoilers. Gore should know!

25. What he could have done??
Did you see Fahrenheit 9/11, He could have acknowledged the Black Congressional Caucaus. He could have talked some Senator into going along with him. He could have been speaking out during the whole 36 day Supreme Court thing. He could have been going on TV and explained what happened. He could have refused to give up. Failing all that he could have been in Bush's face the whole 8 years instead of going off into the woods and growing a beard. Has Gore ever once mentioned Diebold?? will he if he runs this time. Or will be all be so disappointed when he get The Democrats 4th election in a stolen from us. ('00, '02, '04)

26. Yes, I did see F9/11 — and you have to realize that it was a different
time. You see, Al Gore has respect for the rule of law, which is something Bush doesn't have. Of course, we didn't know that back in 2000. He was speaking out constantly during the whole Supreme Court thing — perhaps you were napping. He refused to give up, but then you might have missed it. And BTW, he has been in Bush's face even before the IWR vote, but perhaps you didn't know that either.

Going off into the woods and growing a beard? Right wing talking points. Looks like you've been paying attention to THOSE.
