Tribute to a U Maine Student who Died in Iraq
2,050 students got their diplomas on Saturday from the University of Maine. The graduation was held inside the Alfond Arena in Orono.

Former North Carolina senator, and vice presidential candidate John Edwards challenged the graduating students to become leaders to fight for change.

Edwards says, "There is such an opportunity for good. Such an opportunity for good. And this is where you come in. I'm here to tell you. I'm not guessing about this. I have seen it, young people have changed America before, and you can change America again."

At the beginning of the graduation, there was a moment of silence for a UMaine student killed last weekend in Iraq. David Veverka was a member of the class of 2006.

The university is posthumously awarding him a bachelor of science degree in wildlife ecology. That will be presented to his family at a memorial service in Pennsylvania.
