I thought Colbert was a spin-off lightweight.
I was wrong.
That guy displayed more guts tonight than I have seen maybe ever.
I'm going to bed now, but be warned that I may wax more eloquentlier in the a.m.

He just left me fucking breathless.
Moxie
That's it.
The guy has Moxie.

2. The Colbert Report had an iffy start, but now it's surpassed TDS.

I love Jon Stewart, but these days I laugh at Steven's show more.

28. They aren't in competition.
Jon Stewart is one of the producers of Colbert's show.

They are two quite different talents, and both are superb - - at least to me.

4. He was brilliant!!!!!
I knew Stephen Colbert would hold back for no man. I was expecting a wild roller coaster ride.

He exceeded even my high expectations -- and by golly, the man's got guts. I too was breathless.

5. I nominate Stephen Colbert...
...to be the next recipient of The Stephen Colbert Big Brass Balls award.

At first, Bush was laughing. Pretty soon, he stopped laughing. Then the camera stopped cutting to him altogether.

Seemed like most of the audience was shocked too. I don't think he'll be invited back.

All I can say is "Go Stephen!"

6. He did a great service to America this evening
He forced them to hear us. He took our righteous rage and shoved it up their asses.

If you are of a prayin nature, might ask your chosen deity to watch over Mr. Colbert. They sure as hell don't want others to feel comfy to do what he just did.

7. Will this be the next Wellstone funeral spin event?
I hope not, but in the past harsh criticism of Bush is followed by Right Wing spin about "inappropriateness", like after the King funeral. Colbert isn't going to give a rat's ass what the Slantheads think. He is my new hero.

I'm watching that again.

about how this was going to backfire terribly on the Dems for being so mean to Bush, or some such pathetic drivvel.

15. I suffered through the whole program just to watch him
He stayed in character and blistered Bush and the fawning media in one great performance.

It bothered me that so many people could stand being in the same room with Bush and no shouts of "ITMFA!" I hoped a spouse or a member of the catering staff would let loose. Kept wondering what the award winners were thinking when they had to pose for pictures with him. Blech.

But Colbert was ruthlessly brilliant. And Helen Thomas rocked as his sidekick.

Love that guy.

A CLASSIC piece of history! I want my daughter and my grandchildren to see that. What a PERFECT encapsulation of this whole administration's history up to today.

I always loved Colbert -- he is a real hero to me now. :loveya:

17. i don't particularly like Colbert
but this performance was a raw-edged speaking truth to power ... those journalists were squirming in their seats big time ...

maybe he's knocked down a few barriers for some in the media with his truth telling ...

i didn't find it particularly funny; i found it important ...

19. He went for broke, risking everything he's got.
Very sobering, when you stop and think about it.
I was sweaty and shaky and all I did was listen.
Can't imagine what it was like to do what he did.
