Impeachment: California assembly joins VT, ILL
Edited on Wed Apr-26-06 01:33 AM by Capn Sunshine
Many haven't heard of "rule 206" of Jefferson's parliamentary rules for Congress, but to paraphrase:
If the State legislature brings a resolution to the Congress of the United States to address an issue, Congress must drop everything and hold a special hearing to specifically address the State issue.
This little known rule is being used by a few states to push forth an impeachment of President Bush! So Far, CA, ILL, and VT.

The special sessions will be on CSPAN, imagine our non MSM covered grievances aired in a public forum on TV! How sweet is THAT?

read it here

6. Oh, right above Ed Asner!
Although the band has serious influence. One of the problems with politics today is the low particpation rate of young folks.
And who can blame them?

4. It won't necessarily avoid committee referral
I think these state-based efforts are a good thing, but I think that its important to be realistic. Claims that the passage of one of these state-originated resolutions will force Congress to act on the resolution are overstated. It may...and I emphasize may...result in an hour of debate, but at the end of the hour, the result likely would be referral to the Judiciary Committee, where the resolution would sink from view, at least until the Democrats control the House and the committee.

5. Exactly ... as long as Sensenbrenner runs the House Judiciary...
calls for impeachment will never get out of committee, even if brought by the states

7. Not so
the provisions call for a special session , and a halt to all business.

A special session, if dismissed with a wave of the hand as youproject, would have grave consequences at the polls IMO.

10. apparently you didn't bother to follow the link..or the precedents cited

Believe me...at most it will require one hour of debate, evenly split between the majority and minority, after which motions will be in order, including a motion to refer to committee.

I've discussed this with someone who I suspects know far more about House rules and practices than anyone on this board.

9. This IS going forward in California
Edited on Wed Apr-26-06 01:48 PM by Capn Sunshine
All it takes is a little ground up pressure on our "leaders"
The Party convention is this weekend; oneof the caucuses is an Impeachment Panel, led by Maxine Waters.

This procedure is being taken very seriously.
The main thing we have to fight nationally is the mindset that was already pre-framed by beltway democrats that it will "distract from the election".
