Bush: 'I'm the decider' on Rumsfeld

Defense chief set to meet with so-called 'TV generals'

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush on Tuesday emphasized once again his support for his defense secretary, saying Donald Rumsfeld "is doing a fine job."

At a Rose Garden ceremony announcing his nominees for budget director and trade representative, Bush referred to the controversy in which six retired generals recently have called for Rumsfeld's resignation.

"I hear the voices, and I read the front page and I know the speculation," the president said. "But I'm the decider, and I decide what's best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."

1. The guy is an idiot
What I wouldn't give for a President that could at least speak the language. And this POS was actually brought up speaking this moronic brand of English.

7. "I'm the decider."
I can't believe this man is The President of the United States.
Second to "Shock and Awe" I've never been more saddened for our beautiful Country.

Let's hope that The General Officers will continue to resign and speak out. IMO they are our ONLY chance to prevent the full outbreak of WWIII. :scared:

11. We the people are the deciders
and Bush needs to learn that
his job is to act on our behalf and
in our interest.

Unfortunately I don't think Bush is
intelligent enough to grok that.

16. I Always Know Best...
Don't be absurd--what a silly notion! I could not possibly care less--what career military experts/generals think and what I think about the public's opinion, well, Karl told me not to mention what I think of that... but I'd never dream of doing anything the public wants**; I am the supreme commander, I am the President of THE United States of AMERICA, I am the COMMANDER IN CHIEF, I am the Leader of the Free World--so OBVIUSLEY I KNOW BEST (anybody with all them titles hasta be the best "decider"!). (How DARE they "question" me? They'll pay for this...).

**heck, if the public wants it I'm almost certain to choose otherwise. Actchully, I get special polls done to know what the Democrats like best, which is useuelly what most of "thuh Peeple" want, just so's I know which options to choose if'n I can!

17. Sorry, I must correct you.

The heavily edited version:

"I hear the voices, and I read the front page and I know the speculation," the president said. "But I'm the decider, and I decide what's best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."

That actual quote:

"I hear voices, and I read the front page pictures and I know the speculationism," the president said. "But I'm the deciderer, and I decide what's beast. And what's beast is for Ronald Dumbsfeld to remain as the secretary of pretense."

Please people, accuracy is so important.

The entire White House press corps appeared to be sitting at some distance on the Rose Garden lawn in folding chairs. He called out the names of the chose three who would be allowed to ask a question.
