4. All the stuff he can't say on TV
Dicky...yeah, that always gets me too.

America needs to hear this podcast! He affords these people the honor they are do. Adding their stories, and how they are all connected, makes all the difference.

Subscribing is great, and if I get up the nerve, someday I'll volunteer to talk. :-)

7. This was interesting......
Wes made a fine case as to why it is most patriotic for these Generals to speak up! :patriot:

8. These generals may save out lives:
Edited on Mon Apr-17-06 10:26 PM by Donna Zen
I've been thinking about these guys. Yes, as General Clark points out, speaking out is very difficult for them. It would scary for anyone to go on TV and denounce people in power. But in their case, they've planned their careers around their retirements. Often that meant finding work to pad their savings for their later years. Rummy and this strange cabal can literally fuck them over. Really. They undertaken a very dangerous mission.

"I think this country's on a road to nowhere under the leadership of President George Bush, and I'm incredibly encouraged that many others who have served in the United States Armed Forces with me see it also, because maybe we'll get through to the American people. This administration has to be changed. We've got to get America back on the right path for a secure future."
-General Wesley Clark, April 17, 2006

9. Loved that Quote......
Weve got to get America back on the right path for a secure future!

Heck, that could be the Dem's rally cry in 2006! Lord knows, they need one!

10. We need something
With the republicans in congress at 26% in the polls, we should be at least at 60%. But that's not happening, is it? Too much plastic posturing and not enough starch.

Anyway, may the few who are speaking out find the love of 282,000,000 pairs of ears. I remember when General Clark said that by speaking out he lost friends who felt that bush demanded respect. The latest talking generals will go through the same thing. Hopefully, Clark has paved a smoother way for them.

12. True...
Should have expected a 'cast' from Wes going on record on their behalfs. What a tough row to hoe, knowing full well that our insipid media is going to spin them six ways from Sunday. They are so very much to be admired. I salute these guys - and the General - for standing up.

Heavy on the starch!

13. Oh...oh...and the ass on faux
Which one? Anyone. The one who insinuated that these guys were doing this because they were pissed about some weapons system. Oh dear goddess. Yeah, like someone with a family is going to put their future in jeopardy because of a weapons system.

I know that speaking out was hard on Wes. Maybe his paving the way will help these folks.

15. Yep,
I think I heard this repeated during at least two of Wes' appearances on Faux this weekend....That the Generals speaking out is "payback" for this change or whatever that is going on within the armed services....Sheesh!

And, yes, maybe Wes coming out as forcefully as he has done over the past few years has helped pave the way for others along the way...

17. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Sorry for shouting, but it's so important.

ANYONE who has friends, family or co-workers who don't understand the significance of what these retired generals are saying, or who question their right to say it, PLEASE download this audio file and send it to them, or send them the link. No one could explain it better or with as much authority.

19. More important than ever
After listening to Pace and Rummy, it is more important than ever that we do this. Rummy spent his press conference today extolling all the great changes he's making, and painting the dissenting generals as small-minded group that are afraid of change. Not one so-called journalist pointed out that 1) those generals are retired and thus not be effected by any change, and 2) the generals are questioning Rummy's decisions regarding Iraq. Now, let's take a look at Iraq?

20. Also sounded like Rumsfeld was pitting the Army against the Marines.
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 01:34 PM by NCarolinawoman
Implied (actually stated) that the Army Generals who were complaining are mad about the Marines getting the Joint Chiefs appointment and the NATO command. I heard this kind of thing coming out of McGuerny's (Airforce Neocon) mouth the other day. This must be one of the new talking points. They are really beginning to trash the Army.

Way to go Rummy/Bush/Cheney! First you encourage American civilians to go at each other's throats, now you are pitting the Armed Forces against each other.

21. Interservice rivalry is a fact of Pentagon life, BUT
That's not what's at work here. Not really. And certainly not between the Army and the Marine Corps. Three of the retired generals who have spoken out are Marines (Zinni, Newbold and Van Ripen).

If rivalry has anything to do with it, its that Rummy has been so set on his nutty idea (in my unprejudiced Army mind ;)) that war can be fought with air-power alone -- his whole "shock and awe" concept -- which may be one of the reasons he didn't listen to his ground commanders, Army AND Marine Corps. Well, whatdya expect. Rummy himself was a junior flyboy who never saw combat. The reason he picked Myers, and Air Force officer, to be his first chairman of the Joint Chiefs is because he wanted to make the military more Air Force dominated.

I don't think it's an accident that many of his supporters are Air Force. McInerney, for example, is in up to his eyeballs in the whole MIC community that lobbies to funnel money into expensive aircraft and missile programs.

But I am confident that none of those who are calling for Rumsfeld's head are motivated by any interservice rivalry. There's just no rationale for it. They are all well aware they will be locked out of any Dept of Defense consulting jobs or other economic benefit by speaking out. Afterall, "You're either with us or against us" is the BushCo motto and way of doing business.

23. Myers + StarWars
Myers is a great believer in StarWars which is one of criteria for joining the inner circle. Since met some sort of approval test, one can only guess. But I have heard that all promotions put politics before any consideration of merit in today's Pentagon.
