General Defending Rumsfeld
Lt. Gen. Micheal Delong just finished an interview with Matt Lauer on the "Today Show". In my opinion he said the exact same things the other generals said, but just added that Rumsfeld was good at his job. Near the beginning of the interview Delong said that many of the generals are probably just criticizing Rumsfeld because they do not like his leadership style. I thought to myself that is exactly what the general are saying about Rumsfeld. Delong later said that Rumsfeld was confident and dogmatic, but he did a good job. Delong went on the echo the sentiments of the other generals, but just kept putting a Rosy spin on it. Mainly he kept saying that Rumsfeld was doing a good job.

Cromwell was a great guy. Just a peach of a human being.

A hyperbolic over-reaction, but the seed in it is still good for re-planting: Only after half-a-dozen or more generals blast Rumsfeld do they trot out this batch of "defenders." They likely have no real choice in the matter, promotions-wise, and their defense of a bad Defense Secretary rings hollow. It's like fighting a dragon with toothpicks.

Rumsfeld does not enjoy the support of the military. Those who are retired and free of his nasty retaliations have said he is arrogant and aloof, often dictatorial.

Bush is nominally the Commander-in-Chief but Rumsfeld and Cheney are evidently at the control panels of this administration.

Rumsfeld is a very keen mind that is regrettably in the service of very dark forces.
