What congressman/woman's awfulness is most underdiscussed?
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 02:20 PM by Bombtrack
Sometimes when there are a couple clearly awful members of any particular group they hog up all the spotlight and everyone just focuses on them instead of keeping up with their potential rivals. Nobody at DU doesn't despise Tom Delay, who do you think most needs the spotlight focused on who isn't getting it?

I just came across a guy who might be the epitomy of a disgusting politician, Mark Souder (Indiana 3rd district). Just give him a google. Look at all the different bullshit he's provided America with, in addition to his appearance.

In 1998, Rep. Mark Souder, R-Ind., an advocate of stringent drug laws, slipped into a House bill an amendment denying federal financial aid for college to anyone who had been convicted of either selling or possessing drugs. No congressional committee voted on the amendment. But it passed as part of the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, first enacted in 1965 to create federal financial aid for college students. http://www.slate.com/id/2139803/ (rest of new article about the results of this bill)

An Indiana congressman is warning that an Iraqi-style democracy may not make much of a change there. Why? Because the Judeo-Christian ethic is critical to the success of such a venture, he says.

here's his likely opponent, does he have a shot?

if only he could stand up to the best and brightest like this

6. Nope, I just started researching him when I read that Slate article
I've only been to Indiana once, I know someone who goes to Perdue.

I'm from the great Bill Delahunts district in Massachusetts. Although I do live in Ileana Ros-Lehtinen's district most of the year. Still, being a block-headed attention whore like her isn't as bad as somewhat like Mark Souder.

4. why is it that every single fundy, freeper, etc, I have ever seen a pic of
seems to have been drawn by the same artist?

Not to trumpet strange Nazi-esque racial theories, but has anyone else noticed this? Is it perhaps inbreeding, or a genetic marker of truly staggering stupidity?

"Batrachian" seems to cover it pretty well--thanks, Lovecraft--meaning "froglike" Think Andrea Yates, John Hagee, this guy.....a certain wide doofusness of face and hnyerfiness of grin.....not to mention the uniformly excruciating taste in clothes.....

5. Nancy Johnson. Ct 5th district
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 02:31 PM by monarch
She started out as a relatively liberal member of the state legislature. Then she became a captive of the insurance industry and a Gingrich lieutenant. The merger of our 5th and 6th districts during republican years caused us to lose a good liberal voice--Maloney, I think.

On edit: Yes, James Maloney. What a wonderful question!

7. Of the current Indiana delegation, only Julia Carson is a keeper.
But the rest of them -- Sodrel, Buyer, Chocola, Burton, and your guy here, etc. -- they're all bad news.

I hope at least Sodrel is turned back in his district. That's often a very close Congressional district.

9. We have another one here in Indiana as well
Rep. Hoesttler, the guy who tried to board an airplane with a gun in his carry-on luggage, the guy who told breast cancer activists that breast cancer was the result of abortion, etc. etc.

My neighbor is a big supporter of his, and I always watch the other signs they put up in their yard so I know which judges to vote against.
