Joe Klein, Time's "most liberal" reporter, claims Democrats "hate America"
Edited on Tue Apr-11-06 05:12 PM by Sparkly
From Eric Alterman:

...(A)fter someone brought up the question of the whether the Democrats will be able to present an effective alternative to Bush in the next election, Joe Klein shouted out, “Well they won’t if their message is that they hate America—which is what has been the message of the liberal wing of the party for the past twenty years.”

Alterman points out that this is less about Joe Klein, whose credibility is far from stellar, and more about Time.

What is important, however, is the fact that Time is America’s highest circulation newsweekly. And since it fired Margaret Carlson, Joe Klein, believe it or not, is its most liberal columnist. That’s right. The most liberal columnist at the America’s largest weekly newsmagazine pretends that the message of liberals for the past twenty years has been that they “hate America,” just as if he were reading from talking points issued by Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter. (Don’t get me started.)

Once again I am forced to say, “What the hell is going on here?” How about a little noise in the blogosophere politely asking Time to hire a genuinely liberal columnist?

Well, how about it?

1. Klein was the same person who helped put out "Primary Colors"
Which, while being very funny, legitimized every sort of crap conspiracy theory about the Clintons, including the "Arkancides." He also shilled to privatizing Social Security, and said that Democrats are against it out of politics than of conviction.

15. He never used his real name, hiding behind "anonymous"
Klein's deception of the public was that he was quite happy to show up on TV shows to pontificate about Primary Colors without ever disclosing he was pushing his own book on an unsuspecting audience. Rather sleazy on his part, I thought.

20. Yes, but he also wrote "The Natural" -
which in my opinion is the most balanced and intriguing Clinton biography written, even if some of the details are a little off and perhaps slightly unfair. A very good read, and remarkably detailed given its brevity and style of narrative.

2. Such a meaningless phrase
Like "They hate us for our freedoms."

Enough to make your brain bleed.

Why does Joe Klein hate our soldiers?

10. Short's ok....but when "Not so good looking" and a lousy analyst
and writer is added......this is why Joe Klein hates America.

He probably asks himself many a day, while on the toilet.....WHY ME?

6. I wonder what the criteria are for being a journalist these days.
Can you imagine writing such crap in high school and not being laughed out the door by your teacher?

8. Time...
...has long been in the pocket of the elite disinfo artists that control our MSM. Stop reading it or your blood pressure will permanently be pegged.

The only way to stop this is to no longer subsidize it with our patronage. It's quite obvious whose agenda is being served and it certainly isn't "dear reader."

Same old cow crap...

So yeah....the Times, owned by Time-Warner, BTW, as well as CNN.....is too widely read.

13. Haven't watched...
...or read any Time Warner crap for years. I have actively removed many clients from AOHell as well.

You can complain that it is too large to fight, but all battles begin within. Stop patronizing it yourself and you will find it easier to wean others from it. And you will be a lot happier... ;)

16. I sure hate what America has become
No sense in sugar coating it because it makes Joe Klein uncomfortable. This country has somehow allowed the dumbest, most evil jerk on the planet to be in power for over 5 years now. Do I hate this country for that? You're damn right I do.
