I will not support Kerry at any time until he has received 2162 delegates.
I'm tired of hearing that we have to support Kerry already. Let's look at some hard numbers.

Democratic Delegate Count (Goobergunch Political Report)
44th Democratic National Convention
Total Delegates: 4322 (3520 pledged, 802 unpledged)
Needed to Nominate: 2162
Clark Dean Edwards Kerry Kucinich Lieberman Sharpton Uncommitted
IA 7 18 20
NH 9 13
Others 3453
Superdels. 25 70 12 73 2 18 2 625
Total 25 86 30 106 2 18 2 4078

Kerry needs, by my count, 2056 more delegates to be the nominee - so please do not ask me to support him at this time.

1. Thanks! That needed to be said! I'm sick of the naysayers,Dean can win.
IF he doesn't, the candidate gets my vote, but I'm still 100% behind Dean.

3. Thank you.

When that day comes, I'll pull the lever for JK. Until then, I am vehemently opposed to him.

7. Those are my numbers
I use a different methodology than CNN, mainly because I can't call the superdelegates up myself and ask them who they'll vote for - I have to rely on endorsement.

However, if you use the CNN/AP numbers, Kerry needs 2068 more delegates - even more than with my numbers. So the point stands.

Just letting you know. Check the Kerry site on the endorsements page.

"According to the AP survey, Kerry had 115 delegates, including endorsements or pledges of support from 82 superdelegates, and 33 pledged delegates allocated to him from his wins in Iowa and New Hampshire.

"Kerry has picked up a dozen superdelegate endorsements since Friday, and could widen his delegate lead on Tuesday, when seven states with a total of 269 pledged delegates up for grabs hold primaries or caucuses."

16. you're a little confused

Iowa and New Hampshire meaningfully constitute about 30% to 50% of the primary process.

No one's asked you to hop on a bandwagon, just to keep an open mind that it may well happen that Kerry is the nominee. A lot of peoples' Inner Republican and internalized classism is coming to the fore in dealing with that, and it's not fun to watch.

18. I'm not talking about meaningful effect
I would agree that Iowa and New Hampshire are more important than their delegate counts would show. However, I've seen a lot of posts recently arguing that we should support Kerry now, and there is no reason to do so at this time IMHO.

23. Ok

Not that I've seen 'a lot' of posts or threads urging that. Rather more cut-off-the-nose-to-spite-the-face kind of stuff urging the opposite on (supposed) principles not stated overtly enough to argue with properly.

24. Good
As long as the eventual nominee gets our support. It's fine to stay with your candidate. I object to the many threads popping up threatening to go 3rd-party or whatever because Kerry is either not good enough or can't win because he's too good (liberal).
