Gingrich to Dems - Your slogan for 2006: "Had enough?"
Edited on Sun Mar-26-06 07:31 PM by AussieDave
Good Time magazine article referenced in Editorials & Other Articles by Jack Rabbit:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

"In recent weeks, a startling realization has begun to take hold: if the elections were held today, top strategists of both parties say privately, the Republicans would probably lose the 15 seats they need to keep control of the House of Representatives and could come within a seat or two of losing the Senate as well. Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who masterminded the 1994 elections that brought Republicans to power on promises of revolutionizing the way Washington is run, told Time that his party has so bungled the job of governing that the best campaign slogan for Democrats today could be boiled down to just two words: "Had enough?" "

But do the Dems have the cojones to pick up this ball and run with it ??

1. That's the best thing I've heard him say. I think we should
adopt it as our official campaign slogan.

Had enough?

Darn tootin' we have.

2. Simple and to the point
and can be adapted to all the things wrong with this junta:

"Have you had enough of the war?"

"Have you had enough of high gas prices?"

"Have you had enough of the Republican Medicare plan?"

"Have you had enough of the lies?"

One could go on and on and on.......

7. Alas, that too smacks of "Anybody but (x)"...
Which, for some odd reason doesn't seem to go over well with a large number of voters. It seems to me it's a perfectly valid argument/reason, but they want more. That shouldn't be a problem because we do offer more, much more... indeed, much, much more. However, it seems that we have grave difficulties expressing what that is.

Forever stuck in humdrum language and apparently lacking passion, our elected leaders seem unable to even take advantage of the fact that the Rethugs have provided them with more 'ammunition' than was used in IRAQ (or any war for that matter). They act scared... scared to speak up, scared to offend the powers that be, scared of the boogie man, I don't know; they just seem timid. Not being a politician, I can't even imagine (apparently) what they're facing--maybe hiding under a rock is good strategy--it just seems to me that it's the worst possible approach, and besides, except for the natural failures and inevitable catastrophies resulting from Rethug 'leadership' (which isn't something Dems can take credit for--though the Rethugs will probably try to blame them for it anyway), it isn't working. It's foolish to keep trying the same thing and expecting different results.

We need some good old-fashioned aggression; at least a real appearance of passion and determination. Our party's image has become so wimpy that the notion that Dems couldn't protect the country from terrorists (or whatever)--which is a specious and simply false notion--begins to seem consistent. Our leaders need some real public image advice...

Whether we can produce an appealing expression of our vision or not--unless the Rethugs can clean up their act in the next seven months--we may win in spite of ourselves.

3. Better sounding slogan than anything I've heard our Dem leadership
come up with. I've felt for a long time that our party needed its own Newt Gingrich. He's an asshole, but was a pretty effective asshole.

4. if Harry Reid came up with this slogan
it would be panned at DU.

Coming from Newt Gingrich, however, it's the best thing since sliced bread.

5. well, maybe, but remember Newt brought about the
Republican landslide in 94 and despite his Machiavellian qualities he does have political
savvy.

6. Yep
If Reid said it, people would complain that we "can't win just by not being Republicans" and threaten that we'd lose the "base".

13. Only because Reid hasn't had enough
and probably never will.

Maybe if he backed up his big talk every now and again, he'd be taken seriously.

16. Harry Reid is still too busy looking for his "magic 8 ball" to know what
to do on any given thing.

Don't forget, it's a DRY HEAT here in Las Vegas, so just wetting & sticking your finger in the air doesn't work for him as easily...

He's done a surprisingly amount of good things recently, but has reverted to his usual form, unfortunately.

He was surprisingly good for a short time tho.

He is his usual disappointing self.

Where I was almost energized to go out and vote for him again, I'm not so sure anymore.

He has given me MORE reasons to stay at home now.

We are watching.

And the Dems are backsliding again.

They are gonna let this next election slip away AGAIN.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory that the REPUKES are GIVING us!

Wasn't he the one who told his wife..I divorce thee...i divorce thee.....I divorce thee! on her hospital bed?

I wonder if he isn't saying the same to Bushco, Inc.

Beacuse he can smell the bloodletting in November?

"Had Enough?" Let's use that prolifically!

14. Actually, didn't Carville suggest this a while back?
Or if not Carville, some other Dem strategist. I know for sure I heard it before this. On DU, maybe?

I dunno .... but I know for certain this is not a fresh idea.
